Electric Alice, hailing from Kalmar, released their debut album “At the Funeral Home” earlier this year. The strongest vibes clearly come from psychadelia from the late sixties and the early seventies, with occasional excursions to hard rock and stoner rock. In the center stands the singer Luke Julian with his monologues, sometimes almost talk singing, reminding me of Nick Cave and sometimes Lou Reed in the expression. It’s a well-sounding album, well worth a listen.

In the flood of music tips that comes to my inbox, there’s also quite a few good music videos. Before I have only posted them on Meadowmusic’s Facebook page, but I thought that I would start to put them in blog posts as well. Possibly there will also be some Bandcamp and Soundcloud players now and then, but the main focus is still on mp3 songs you can download if you like.
I’ll start today with a couple of videos from Caviare Days. I have written about the psychadelia-inspired sister duo before. Here’s the new video “The Lucky Ones” as well as “You’ll Qualify” from before, both songs taken from their debut album, released earlier this year.
During my years of blogging here on Meadowmusic, one of my absolutely best discoveries was Andreas Lundgrens “Bad Buddha”, which I wrote about back in 2008. As he now finally released a new album, “Lovely Dream”, I was of course excited to see what it was about.
And I’m met by a painfully beautiful music. In general terms I could say that it’s a mix Americana, blues and acoustic rock. Across the somewhat desolate atmosphere road dust sweeps in and gives an authentic feeling for the journey Andreas shows us, often accompanied by a worn acoustic guitar. It’s an inner journey, which is hard not to get affected by, self-revealing and naked, as a musical showdown with himself.
It’s not heavy, rather darkly beautiful, with wonderful melodies and often a more low-voiced Andreas than before, but who sometimes rips and shakes you around. All the songs are written by Andreas except the enchanting “Why I Am” where Jade Ellis has written the lyrics, which she also sings.
To me this is without a doubt the strongest album experience I’ve hade this year. “Lovely Dream” was recently released digitally and is available on Spotify. Here are three songs from the album:
In the beginning of last yearwe wrote about Stone Carpet and their single “The Sound of a Thousand”. Now they’re back with an ambitious project, with the plan to release 4 EP:s during this year. On each EP they explore one of the different genres which have influenced them during the years.
First out in May was the three-track EP “Exordium”, where they set out for a more progressive direction. The song here below, “The Plan”, comes from this EP. In July the second EP “Narratio” was released; an EP that focus more on metal.
A fun project, and I’m quite curious about what the upcoming EP:s will be about, especially since it’s so well executed in these two first EP:s. You can listen to their music on Spotify and follow the band on Facebook.
