Now we in Bus Stop Dreams have released our third single, “Come Together” (and no, it’s not a Beatles cover). There are two songs, written by Lasse Thomasson and Pär Enqvist respectively, treating the same subject but from two different perspectives. “A dystopian group cuddle” we call it.

The singer on the title track is Andreas Lundgren and on the second song “Let Us Light a Fire” Ulla Wrethagen is singing. Bring the Mourning On releases another track for free from their album “Going, Going, Gone”, which I wrote about earlier this year. It’s the excellent “Eye of the Beholder”, which you can listen to and download below, accompanied by a video made by Björn Wahlström (Idle Hands).

The duo Mutual Friends released the album “The Cabin” in the autumn. 10 beautiful tracks with folk music, americana on the border to country, acoustic and coloured with mandolin, banjo and harmonica.

The vocals feel very special with a dark voice that sort of marks the entire atmosphere of the music and gives it a more mature feeling, like if Johnny Cash would join in anytime, even if the style maybe lies more in outskirts of his territories.

You can listen to “The Cabin” on Spotify. I’m afraid that I haven’t found any other page with the band’s music, besides the ordinary 30-s snippets on for example Itunes and Amazon. The band also has a Facebook page.

Bring the Mourning On brings us to the US and to the country music areas where Neil Young spent a lot of time in during the seventies. Dark, alternative country with a hint of rock, the band says about their music, which I think is a good description.

The sound feels classic and Henning Pettersson show the right suffering in his voice; listen especially to the song “Let the Battle Begin” here below, a song that has a lot of what you could ask from the genre.

On December 14th Emma Salmon releases her debut solo album “Goodbye Lady Luck”. She’s been working on the songs since 2003 when she moved from Umeå to Stockholm and started working as a freelancing singer and musician.

It’s about 10 tracks of country pop, where you can listen to the first single from the album, “Follow the Road”, here below.

It's about 10 tracks of country pop, where you can listen to the first single from the album, ...

I find it interesting to listen to voices in completely new contexts. If it’s a skilled singer he usually manages to produce new layers of emotions that you couldn’t feel in the other genre. It’s like viewing a person from a new angle, the entire picture changes and becomes more complete, and this also affects the way you listen to the former work.

I’ve written about Makkan Johansson and his band Saigon Sickness before, and he has moved here from an alternative, darker rock to americana, as the singer in the band The Medicine Show. It’s about well-trodden paths which moves from country rock to a more rootsy american folk and country.

And they do this really well. Makkan shows a different register and personality here, and the band delivers a row of inviting melodies and songs.
I’ve been listening to their debut album, which is not out yet though, and if you like to be updated about this, you can follow the band on Facebook or on Myspace. Here are two songs from the album:

Grand Roses was, to say the least, an interesting discovery. This spring they released their third EP “Say It to My Fervent Heart”, and it has become a favourite of mine. To make an attempt to describe their music I’d take a part of Glasvegas and mix it with a dose of attitude from Union Carbide Productions and also a sensation of mellow Americana.

Well, it sounds really good with strong tracks and a singer who strikes the right nerve and has a nice darkness in his voice. Listen some more on their Myspace page and on Spotify.

Jon Strider, whom I wrote about last year, is back now with a new album, “Fresh Tracks”, which was released in February. Except from two tracks, he has chosen this time to collaborate with various songwriters, like Jane Getz, David Garriock, Michael Boesen et al. And it shows; there are larger leaps this time between different styles and expressions. The soft country rock is there, but gets accompanied by country, blues and other influences. It’s pleasant, nice melodies and well produced.

The last time I wrote about the musical adventurer Peter Lindström, he had just been out on a 3 month long tour in the USA. And this time he has recently returned from an even longer journey with concerts in Japan, Nya Zeeland and Australia.

He also has a new album to show us, “Petrel Petering”, which I thought I could present here in this post. It’s an 11 track long album, where he continues to explore the classic american singer/songwriter music. Add to this some blues and country songs like “Jesus’ Blood Ain’t Failed Me Yet”, a great track which almost gives me an impression like it’s Bowie singing Jaques Brel with country sound.

Peter has that kind of voice that makes it’s way inside of me. There is a warmth, a nerve and a precense that feels very real. With his story in the back of my mind, it gets even more interesting. Listen for yourself in a couple of tracks from “Petrel Petering”:
