Desertsongs – “Silhouettes”

September 9, 2011 at 6:04 pm

When the first song “Silhouettes” starts on the trio Desertsongs’ new album, I’m swept into a nice mellow ambience that smells of Autumn nights. This melancholy stays over the entire album, which also gives me the sensation that it’s part of a soundtrack to a classic movie drama. Some of this feeling comes from the storytelling in the songs and the singer Minna Bolin’s special tone and jazz feeling in her voice.

The combination of the electronica sound, with vibes from the eighties, the minimalistic arrangements and the melodies and the sometimes special harmonies, create a different atmosphere on this album, as it balances between retro-jazz-vibes and pop-electronica. A very pleasant music experience with a perfect ending in the soft “Red Coat”.

You can listen to the album on their Bandcamp page or on Spotify. You can also find the band on Desertsongs’ site.

LCTRISCHere’s a short post about the electro pop duo LCTRISC who have released a new single, “Sunbird”. A little different than the songs from their last EP and a really good pop song. And they continue to produce interesting music videos, once again in collaboration with Johan Stolpe.

Grenades For the Wall

Grenades For the WallGrenades For the Wall is a fresh new pop duo that played their debut gig in june and that has released three songs on the net this summer. Josef Melin is handling the synths, the songwriting and the production and Agnes Grahn is singing.

The sound reminds me of the the early nineties, but feels more stripped and mixed with other styles. One of the three songs, “The Soundtrack of My Life”, you can listen to here below; a nice electro-pop song with soul vibes, which accomplishes a lot with small means. “London Bridge” doesn’t feel that interesting to me, but “Fight Your Battles With Me”, on the other hand, is a really nice acquaintance. There they manage to stitch together a naked piano-pop ballad verse with a fatter souly chorus, which, the first time I listened, hit me like a little bomb and surprised me.

Cykelsamba

Art Acoustic has released a new single, “Upp till tramp”, which is the official soundtrack for Cykelsamba (“Bike samba”), which started this weekend. Cykelsamba is a manifestation for sustainable progress, in the shape of a bike ride from the south of Sweden up north through the country. You can follow the journey on Cykelsamba’s site.

This is the first song in Swedish by Art Acoustic, and they say that it’s probably not their last. Listen more to Art Acoustic on the Soundcloud page or on their site.
