Friska Viljor relased their fourth album “The Beginning of the Beginning of the End” during spring. If I felt that the last album “New Beginnings” was a little more restrained than the previous “Tour de Hearts”, they are pretty much unleashed this time. Armed with horns and a range of instruments, it’s full speed ahead from the start.
It’s party, it’s sing-a-long, it’s dancing in the streets (yes, there’s even waltz), but also space for reflection and variation. Overall a positive album which touches my impression that this is their best album so far.
“Loud, quiet, rough, emotional.” it says in the description to OMFS!’ album “Skaka” on their Bandcamp page. And to describe the difference between this new album and the last one “Hemma”, then under the name One Man Freac Show, I’d like to use some of these words: louder, rougher, more emotional.
It feels like the band has left the club scene and is up on the big arena scene, and instead of focusing on catchy tunes they go for the big emotions and gestures. At least on this album. They have already released a single, “Fara”, from an upcoming album and is hinting that they are getting out of the arena.
As usual it’s very interesting to explore some of Fredric Johansson’s and his bandmates’ great creativity and if you’d like to listen to this album and earlier works you can do this on their Bandcamp page and on Spotify. OMFS! also has a site and a Facebook page.
A little more than a month ago, Sagabond released their new album “Easy Rhymes and Metaphors”. The band has now grown to a septet with a wide range of instruments: vocals, guitars, violin, cello, saxophone, piano, bass, drums.
If the recordings we wrote about before had a live-feeling in the production, this is more a skilled studio production. The folk vibes remain and are even amplified and altogether the album turns out to be a beautiful collection of five songs of indie folk-pop with nice melodies and arrangements where they really use all the instruments to colour the music.
Some month ago Heart-Sick Groans released their third EP, “Look!!! These Three Painters of Hits Have Done It Again!”. It was about a year ago we wrote about their last EP, and since then, the singer Johan Brännström, also has released his own music.
To some extent this EP sounds differently, since there is a certain Hawaii-feeling in several of the songs, but in the end I recognize their uplifting, light indie pop and hooky melodies. Listen here below in a couple of tracks.
Here’s another band we have presented before, and who has produced some new songs. Since Our First Guitar has released the single “Routine” with two really good tracks. I particularly like “Your Mind, Your Hell”, where Wallentin Richardsson’s cool voice come into it’s own.
