Le Days – “Dead People On Tape”

June 20, 2011 at 2:02 pm

Le DaysI wrote about Daniel Hedin and his solo project Le Days a couple of years ago. Now he’s finally released his debut album “Dead People On Tape”.

The Cd’s booklet doesn’t contain the lyrics to the 16 songs. Instead we see photos of unknowns, mug shots seemingly from the beginning of the last century. It’s through the eyes of these people Daniel looks when he creates this music, picturing how the world may have looked for these, I imagine, tragic life stories.

With a voice and an expression that reminds a little of Conor Oberst, he paints a dark, tragic, dreary world. It becomes very strong and emotional and surprisingly dynamic in this minimalistic production. An impressive and credible album.

You can listen to “Dead People on Tape” on Bandcamp and on his site he shows the images of these dead people. You can also find Le Days on Facebook.

This Year’s Model – “We Walk Like Ghosts”

June 17, 2011 at 12:11 pm

This Year's ModelToday, This Year’s Model release their new album “We Walk Like Ghosts”, their second full length album since the start in 2005.

You could call it indie pop, but not of the slick, light-hearted kind, rather with a more basic, close sound, sometimes reminding of the Cure, sometimes with some vibes from The Go Betweens, but also with a whole lot more in the mix. Great melodies, an interesting voice from Niklas Gustafsson and an album that grows in strength each time I listen.

To find out more about where the album will be available you can visit the band’s site or their Facebook page.

Niels Nielsen – “Welcome To The Promising Land of Hi5ers and Hopeless People”

Niels NielsenNiels Nielsen released the album “”Welcome To The Promising Land of Hi5ers and Hopeless People” earlier this year. A rather dark album, which at first was hard to get into, but after giving it som more attention a very special album and artist appeared in front of me.

He moves somewhere in between Radiohead’s experimenting disted world and Beck’s lo-fi-acoustic work. Mixing dark disorted tracks with electronica and acoustic songs. Quite unique to my ears and varied.

The Fiery Piano – “Sirens EP”

June 13, 2011 at 3:03 pm

The Fiery Piano Gustaf Montelius presents his solo project The Fiery Piano as bedroom pop music. A little more than a month ago he released “Sirens EP”, an album recorded in his bedroom, full of beautiful and personal music.

It’s mellow, but still with a feeling of warmth together with nice melodies and a special voice. You can listen and download the EP on his Bandcamp page or listen on Spotify. You can also find The Fiery Piano on his site.

ChikanPetter Söderberg, earlier member of Amical, calls himself Chikan as a solo artist. He has recently released an EP, “I Like You Better (When You’re Drunk)”.

With electronica mixed with dirty indie, catchy phrases and a personal voice, this makes a very interesting album.
