New songs with Mankku [mancko]

September 10, 2012 at 3:10 pm

Mankku

Last year I wrote about Mankku [mancko]‘s debut solo album “Festen har bara börjat”. This summer he released another two songs, “Gör så gott du kan” and “Släpp den lös”. The songs are recorded in what he calls dogma sessions, which I understand means that it’s all recorded live with all three musicians in the same session, without any overdubs and life lines. Mainly acoustic and recorded at Studio Intim in Oslo.

Here below you’ll find one song “Gör så gott du kan”, while the other one is available on Mankku’s Soundcloud page.

Varjen – “Hardland EP”

August 22, 2012 at 1:53 pm

Varjen

Niklas Sibelius used his nick name from high school, when he named his solo project: Varjen (The Wolf). It’s about Americana and indie folk where he mentions The Tallest Man On Earth, The Cave Singers as Frank Turner as influences. Especially Frank Turner comes to mind as I listen to the recently released debut EP “Hardland”, which is maybe most obvious in the last song, “Hardland”, where he almost feels punky in his expression. The room feeling in the sound also makes me think about folk from the eighties and albums like  Springsteens “Nebraska”, where I also find more common vibes in for example the beautiful “Shoreline Weeks”, which you can listen to here below.

In any case it’s a strong and interesting debut which you can listen to on Varjen’s site and on Spotify. Follow Varjen on Facebook.

Ulrika Windolf – “Loosen Up”

Ulrika Windolf

Ulrika Windolf has released two EP:s before and is now on her way to launch her first full length album. In May she released a first taste of the upcoming album, the single “Loosen Up”. A catchy song which sends me som vibes of Anna Ternheim in the arrangement, all to Ulrika’s special tone in her voice.

The cover to the single is created by the artist Emelie Delphin, who also has interpreted several of Ulrika’s other songs, and the intention is that they will collaborate in upcoming exhibitions and live shows, melding art and music together.

You can find Ulrika on Facebook and her music is available on Spotify.
