Suvi – “Find You”

Suvi made quite an impression on the Internet last year with the single “Bleeding For Your Love“, especially on the music blogs. Now she’s back with the new song “Find You”; a song in the same spirit as before with eighties-influenced pop:

Alice Boman – “What”

Another artist that had her music played on plenty of music blogs last year is Alice Boman. Her dreamy, magical, simple home recordings in front of her piano hypnotized many of us. The EP “Skisser” was released in May 2013 and in June this year the songs from the EP will be joined with six new songs on the album “EP II & Skisser”. Here’s one of the new songs, “What”:

Karl Buhre – “Stealing Horses (Live)”

Now a live video, which is not too common here on Meadowmusic. We’ve heard Karl Buhre’s great voice before; in the band Alouatta and as a solo artist. Here he performs the song “Stealing Horses” live in a wonderful Sofar Sounds-production.
Since you’re reading this I guess you like discovering new artists. If you also like these kind of intimate live recordings I recommend to have a look at Sofar Sounds Youtube channel which is a veritable gold mine for this, with recordings from all around the world.

The Burglars

And now something completely different. It’s The Burglars who deliver plenty of energy and rock’n’roll in a couple of garagepunk-sounding songs. If you’re in Stockholm on the 2nd of April you can see the live on Kåken.

New album with Erik Borelius and singles from DNKL, Bring The Mourning On and Lejonsläktet

Erik Borelius and House of Sound

Erik Borelius and House of Sound

Erik Borelius – “Erik Borelius and House of Sound” – album

“Erik Borelius and House of Sound” is the name of  Erik Borelius’ twelfth album, which was released a couple of days ago. It’s also the name of the band he started three years ago with himself on vocals and acoustic guitar, Pär Hedtjärn on Drums, Jonas Hedlund on electric guitars and Anders Olausson on bass guitar.

On the album they’ve been aiming at the arrangements they play live with as few added tracks as possible. The sound is airy, warm and close. Mostly it feels rather laidback and quite personal in songs where Erik is mixing influences from various directions, from pop, blues, jazz, progressive rock, fusion. Sometimes I get some Dire Straits-vibes but still it feels like it’s the spirit of Al Di Meola which shines through in the strongest way, and which is also allowed to spread it’s wings in a couple of the instrumental tracks and in a song like “What Is It All About?” here below. It’s a band of skilled, tight musicians where of course Eriks’s fantastic and beautiful acoustic guitar gets some well deserved space. Here are two songs:

DNKL – “Battles”

The trio DNKL got plenty of attention on the net from their debut single “Hunt“. Last month they released the follow-up “Battles”, a song where I recognize the large-sounding, soaring electro pop from the debut but which also contain a certain rock vibe.

Bring The Mourning On – “Fading Trail” – video

Bring The Mourning On, hailing from Malmö, are releasing a new album, “Northern Ghost”, on the 4th of April. Here’s the first taste in the shape of a video to the song “Fading Trail”. Naked, beautiful Americana:

Lejonsläktet – “Som om sanden rinner ut” – video

Alexander Eldefors and Volter Hagman grew up together in the small village Undersåker in Jämtland. Later they played together in the band  Rói Höttur, but parted musically, and we’ve heard them here before in projects like The Orange Revival, The Seed Coat and Yellus. Now they are back together again in a new project, Lejonsläktet, which is built upon ideas, melodies and thoughts they have collected over the years. Here’s their first creation, a song that really feels like psychadelia from Jämtland, and which will soon be followed by the debut EP “In och ut”:

Americana and pop from Tom Levin, Weaver, Manfred Kidd and Stars In Coma

Tom Levin

Tom Levin – “Pull Yourself Together”

Tom Levin is releasing his second single from his new album, “Pull Yourself Together”, together with a fun video. I took the opportunity to listen to the entire album “Them Feet” also, which was quite an interesting experience. With the roots in Americana he blends this with various genre influences in rather different, inspiring and often stripped-down arrangements. Recommended. I also added another song from the album here below, the fascinating “Company Man”.

Weaver – “From Different Trees”

Weaver, or Johan Weber which is his real name, is releasing his debut EP on the 16th of March. As a first taste he’s showing us the Americana and country-vibing “From Different Trees”, together with this animated video:

Manfred Kidd – “Lights”

And here’s another song from an upcoming EP. It’s the duo Manfred Kidd, hailing from Göteborg, who have released their debut single “Lights”, with catchy, uplifting and playful indie. A strong debut.

Stars In Coma – “Tricks”

Stars In Coma, based in Malmö, will release their sixth album on the 30th of April. The new single “Tricks”,taken from the album, is a song that breathes of seventies’ pop, with a chorus that almost feels like a schlager hit from that decade. The front man André Brorsson writes that the album will be characterized by music from the seventies and the eighties, which also the earlier released song, the disco-inspired “By the Mechanical Urn”, suggests.

Pop, folk and indie from Linn Öberg, Simon Norrsveden, Skrotlunga and Next Stop: Horizon

Next Stop: Horizon

Next Stop: Horizon

Linn Öberg – “Vacant Days” – video

I wrote about Linn Öberg last year when she released the wonderful song “Jump“. Now she’s back with the single “Vacant Days”, which sweeps in to my room like a fresh Spring breeze with dreamy singer/songwriter-pop.

Simon Norrsveden – “Bloodsucker Boy” – video

Simon Norrsveden is on his way with his third solo album, to be released on the 12th of March. He’s tempting us with this strong single “Bloodsucker Boy” and a video, unmistakably signed Mats Udd, which doesn’t make the song less strong.

Skrotlunga – “I Lost It All”

I’ve written about Daniel Börjesson before, but then under the name Everett Parker. Now he’s performing as Skrotlunga, here with the debut single “I Lost It All”. As before it’s Americana with dirt under the nails, “Music from the dirt”, as he writes.

Next Stop: Horizon – “Rain On Me”

The duo Next: Stop Horizon, Pär Hagström and Jenny Roos, released the debut album “We Know Exactly Where We Are Going” in 2011. After touring and a sejour in Germany, where Pär Hagström wrote the music to the play “Das kalte Herz”, they are now back with the next album “My Harbour, My Home”, to be released March 14th. Here’s the first single, “Rain On Me”:

Groovy music from Riddarna, Saint, Åkersbronx and Hillman Lighthouse

Saint

Riddarna – “Hjärtat slår”

Riddarna are on their way with their third album “Under Jorden”, due for release on February 12th. The first single from the album is called “Hjärtat slår” and to me they sound better than ever before; rough rock with a dark ambience, skillfully played and groovy.

Saint – “The Song”

Saint came from Gambia to Malmö in 2012, where he’s still waiting for the final decision in his asylum case. Gladly, this doesn’t stop him from moving forward and creating music, and the debut album “Asylum” is being released later this year. His first single “The Song”, featuring Bramma, invites us to a groovy hip hop with a dense, a bit dark atmosphere, massive choirs and a great chorus.

Åkersbronx – “Bromance”

Already on their first single “Spela död“, the duo Åkersbronx showed their sense for groovy music and the second one, I’d say, shows it even more. This is uplifting hip hop which makes me happy, where the feet start moving, whether you like it or not, right at the start of the song when they pick up some speed with funky guitars and a big dose of joy of playing. The duo have started out great and I’m looking forward to their next song.

Hillman Lighthouse – “Change Your Mind”

And here’s some more groovy music, but now from a quite different genre. It’s about country rock, Americana and a power pop inspired chorus. Hillman Lighthouse is the name of the band and the song is called “Change Your Mind”. They have created a simply wonderful, dynamic sound with just the right patina from the early seventies and I fall head over heels for this. The debut album is being released in March.
