The electro duo Gros, Wilhelm Bohman and Henrik “Punsch” Johansson, released the EP “Mother Mountain” in December. On the EP you’ll find four songs; two of their own instrumental tracks and also two interesting remixes of the title song made by Den Svenska Björnstammen and Freekok. “Mother Mountain” is a fascinating song which feels film epic, almost like a futuristic spaghetti western, while the following “Schmetterlinge” has a more energetic pop touch.
If any music deserves the tag dreamy it’s Houston‘s music. Their ambient electronica and whipering soul voices soars right up into the clouds and it feels relaxing and soothing. Behind Houston we find the producer team Sum Comfort and this is their way of showing themselves as artists. An album will be released later this year. On the EP you’ll find four tracks where “14 februari” is an interpretation in Swedish of Sade’s ”I Never Thought I’d See The Day” and “Eldflugor” an interpretation of John Martyns ”Hurt In Your Heart”.
Magnus Reimer started working with his solo debut, “Tidal Lock”, four years ago, and this Spring he’s going to release it. He’s picked three songs out of the fourteen album songs to give us a taste of what’s coming later. Magnus is a piano player, which is also what appears as the foundation in the songs, in the shape of effect-distorted piano or Rhodes piano. He has a special passion for synth sounds from the beginning of the eighties, and overall the reverb-heavy sound gives me a feeling of that decade, in a kind of electronica-influenced pop music which is both melodic and experimental. Listen for yourself here in the song “All These Intentions”.
The duo Henrik von Euler and Rickard Jäverling released the single “Det står skrivet” in December, under the band name Dödens dal (“The Valley of Death”). Instrumental electronica which makes me think about Alan Parsons Project and TV-dramas from the eighties. An album, “Gå ensam förbi horisonten”, will be released on February 20th, an album they describe as a mourning process.
I’m starting this week with some dreamy, longing electro soul from Silverarken with the song “Dancing to the Thought of You”. This northern band is now recording their first full length album, which is scheduled for release this spring.
