Sebastian Gyllmeister, Martin Engborg andVictor Adolfsson form the band The Cobra Trio and recently they released their first EP, “Cobra Fever”. They produce a tight and dense rock, surely with influences from various directions. My first thoughts though, goes to the early seventies with heavy blues rock, some Black Sabbath and a glimpse of psychadelia, but there’s also lots of vibes from contemporary rock so I wouldn’t call it retro overall.

Here’s a first taste of Hugo Lindmark’s upcoming EP, “Bilder som snurrar”. You may recognize Hugo from the band Greta & the One Night Stands, which I wrote about before.

Smal som jag

I wrote about Vampyramiden a year ago as they took us out on a lo-fi train trip and partied on a “borrowed train” on their first EP. Now they’ve released their second EP “Teenage Destiny”; four songs of  lo-fi pop you’ll recognize from the earlier EP, but this time with stronger songs and melodies I think.

Despite the title of the EP they sing in Swedish and the themes this time is about school anxiety and natural disasters. Listen to the album on their site and also meet the band on their Facebook page.

Pyromanens dotter

After the solo debut last year with the album “The Denial of Me, Myself & I” Petter Seander now continues with the follow-up album “Til Death Do Us Apart”. Petter is mostly known for playing with Kristian Anttila during the last 6 years. I have listened way too little to Kristian to be able to compare the two of them, but it’s clear that mr. Anttila participates on the album, which may not come as a surprise after such a long collaboration.

Despite the heavy subject the new album is full of energy and playfulness. At first the similar beat on some of the songs gave me a feeling of repetitiveness, but pretty soon it all started to dissolve into individual parts of energic indie pop with a nice variation, even though the breathing spaces on the album in the songs “My Fumbling Hands”, “Turn Out All the Lights” and the finishing “This Is Where It All Ends” come in handy and feel like some of the highlights on an even and good album.

My favourite tracks have varied somewhat but right now I’d say that “Can’t Stop Me Now” and “Whispering Pines” fancy me the most. You can discover this for yourself on Spotify and you can follow Petter Seander his site and on Facebook.

According to Elliot, Projekt Elliot is a lo-fi effort with Swedish (from Skåne) lyrics and expression. Recently he released the three-track EP “Del 1: Äventyr i Lo Fi” (“Part 1: Adventures in Lo Fi”).

I wouldn’t really call it lof-fi when it comes to the sound; what he’s referring to is the simplicity of it all, as it’s all about Elliot and his acoustic guitar, no more no less. And that’s good enough for me.

It’s calm and low-voiced, but still it becomes charged in the somewhat mellow ambience. He sings about going your own way, about not reaching the destination, about being a human, and he does so in a humble way which makes it feel human and personal. Maybe like a celebration to the small person in all of us.
