Vånna Inget, hailing from Malmö, recently released their debut album “Allvar”. It’s punk in Swedish full of nice melodies and good songwriting. It’s anxiety, melancholy and lyrics that without diversions hit you in the stomach.

The production is simple and unpolished, which is not uncommon when it comes to punk rock, but I think that they have really succeeded here. There’s space and air enough to pour out as much energy as they like, while it feels just as much as real punk music and authentic as it should.

I also like that there’s quite some variation on the album, where they move from calmer pop-influenced songs to energic outbursts. A brilliant debut album with a singer in Karolina Engdahl that stands out.

After being a member in several pop and rock acts during a period of time, Per Arvidson quit entirely with music in 1994, became a father of a couple of twins and started working as the director of the the radio station NRJ in Malmö. In 2004 he bought a synth for his kids which led to that he started writing songs again and eventually producing them. The story doesn’t say what happened to his kids’ interest for music.

In September he released the EP “When the War Comes On”, four pop songs with nice melodies. In a way it’s timeless classic pop in my ears, where I sometimes land in the seventies and sometimes in the more grand eighties in the vibes from the songs.

He’s planning another EP this year, and while you wait for that one you can listen to “When the War Comes On” on Spotify and watch video versions of the tracks on his Youtube channel. You can also find Arvidson on Facebook.

Fly Me a Baby

It’s hard not to think of The Cure when you listen to The Litsos‘ songs. The singer Tove Sandström’s voice also reminds me a lot of a young Robert Smith in the way of singing. Comparisons aside, I think The Litsos manage quite well to stand on their own , foremost through a creative and good songwriting. Dangerous Location

Chikan, which I wrote about before, released a new song the other day, “Punk, Hip-Hop and Indie Music”. Sort of a manifesto, according to himself, if anyone was in doubt from where he gets his inspiration.

Punk, Hip-Hop and Indie Music

The duo Musicemia, consisting of Daniel Renström and Goran Sajinovic, has a somewhat different setup with acoustic guitar and accordion. They describe their music as folk/rock/lo-fi influenced by Pearl Jam, Beirut and Yann Tiersen which feels like a very fitting description of how they sound.

With a nice voice from Daniel Renström they produce a quite pleasant melancholy, a melancholy with ingredients from various sources in folk music. I hear British islands, french cafés, some americana and on occasion a breath from the Balkans.
