Today the Swedish-English trio Vena Portae, Ruben Engzell, Dom Coyote and Emily Barker, released this music video to their song “Flames &Fury”, taken from their debut album. It’s a wonderful piece of folk pop with big emotions, some drama and a lovely warmth I just fell for immediately. I haven’t listened to their album before but I’ll make sure I do now, of course. The write about the song:
A fictitious couple, unhealthily obsessed with one another, addicted to the drama of their love, fated to be together in a perpetual cycle of dysfunction. When we were recording the record in Mölnbo, we went out for dinner most nights to a Turkish pizzeria called Abhi’s. It was the only restaurant/bar in the town. Before doing the vocal take on this tune, we visited Abhi’s and Emily got steamingly drunk so she could get further into character.
Here’s some inspiration from Finland. It’s Jarno Takkumäki from Helsingfors who has released his debut EP “Elizabeth” under the artist name Lac Belot. He offers a pleasant, relaxed and a bit dreamy singer/songwriter pop on the three songs. Here are two of them:
And here’s another debut single, this time from the band IIIII (pronounced/interpreted as “Lines”). The song “People” smells of electropop hit for the radio from afar I dare to say. Adele Kosman from For BDK joins them on vocals which just makes it even better Adele Kosman:
On his new single “Rural”, released today, Tkačuk has collaborated with the indie band Humfree Bug Art. It turns out as a fascinating meeting where they have managed to merge their special characteristics in a beautiful way. They write about the song:
“Rural is about the expectations you have as a teenager, that everything will get better with time. Leaving the small and old for something bigger and better…”
Here’s the Danish trio Mont Oliver who released their debut EP “19” about a week ago. They have put together their very own mix of hip hop-beats, trip hop and pop, fronted by Jakob Hammershøj’s smooth soul voice. The biggest exclamation mark is found in the title track “19”, a track that radiates quite a special ambience from the hip hop beat, the pop melody and most of all the the electronic background which kind of looms over it all, foreboding.
