The band Bellaroush, hailing from Göteborg, usually creating music with their own blend of hip hop, reggae and pop, has just released the new single “The Sun Goes Down”, featuring no less than Promoe. And it’s a great song they have created, maybe the best I’ve heard from them, with a dark, charged vibe and a lovely retro-patina over the sound. It certainly sets the expectation bar high for their debut album, which will be released in February. The video is made by Tildeh Hjelm.
The electronica trio Blänk have released their first single in three years, “Tears Run Dry”. It’s a beautifully melancholic story, told with only ambient pads and hip hop-beats as support. They recorded the song together with Noonie Bao in a cabin somewhere in Lapland, in the north of Sweden, and maybe you can hear some of the vast open landscapes with an accompanying typical sadness in the large atmospheric sound. A new album, “Only Built For Northern Lights”, has been recorded and will be released on the 9th of March next year.
Wildhart is a trio from Göteborg who today are releasing their first single “Stuck In a Second”. And it’s a fascinating debut song they show us, at first sight a melodic electro pop track, but which is not built in a traditional way at all. It feels rather like a short theater play in three acts, told with ambient backgrounds, an almost Björk-like expression from the singer Ylva Holmdahl and dramatic turns, careful but still confident. I’m quite curious to see what comes next.
Tobias Borelius, whom we know primarily as singer and songwriter in Emerald Park but also as a solo artist, decided to contribute to our Christmas music with the new single “Christmas By Myself”. The single consists of two songs where Tobias gets help from Svante Lodén (Damn!) and his souly voice on the Lennon/McCartney-inspired title track, while he grabs the michrophone himself on the synthpop-sounding “Tomorrow’s Christmas”. Mats Bengtsson (Wilmer X) on piano and David Carlsson (Mopeds) on bass have also taken part in the recordings.
Thomas Teller from Malmö recently released his debut album “Tillbaka igen; härifrån nu”. Thomas has earlier released “two EP:s under the name Early Me, composed music to a dance show, created choir arrangments for one of the most prominent Iranian poets of today and is one of the founders to the live concept Bushwick Book Club Sverige, where books inspire artists to write new songs” (transl. from Swedish, artist bio)
The album is quite a pleasant experience with thoroughly written lyrics, a mix of humor and seriousness, just like he describes them himself. The music changes from the the intimate, naked, folk-inspired to grand pop and often lands in a dreamy, longing vibe, which I really like. My favourite track is “Anderslöv”, also a village in Skåne which now finally has a song.
