I’m listening to the album “Hemma” (“At Home”) from One Man Freac Show, a really nice surprise. I haven’t listened to OMFS before, so I didn’t have any expectations at all, but this was a very strong album, right up my alley.
Fredric Johansson, who is behind One Man Freac Show, has created a varying and interesting album in the realms of Indie pop. I hear some Ed Harcourt and get some vibes from Foo Fighters, in some tracks when he gets some pace. But in the end this sounds suprisingly unique and fresh, and with very interesting songwriting.

To me, one of the best pop albums last year, was Jon Rinneby’s “I’m In a Sideshow”. A collection of irrestistable pop songs with a nice indie touch to them. With these songs in his luggage Jon traveled on and created the band Sweet Water Pirates, continuing his pop odyssée.
Even if they haven’t released a full album yet, there is a collection of tracks to listen to on Sweet Water Pirate’s site and on their Myspace page. And if I compare with the earlier recordings, it feels a little bit different here.
The unmistakingly good feeling for nice pop melodies is there, but it sounds less indie and more retro. I find influences from folk, country, Beatles and more. Quite some variation, and it’ll be very interesting to see what they will come up with next.
After a couple of months of vacation here on Meadowmusic, I thought it was a good idea to get started again. I have loads of great artists in store to write about.
First up, a favourite from last year, Golden Kanine, a band that recently released their debut album “Scissors and Happiness” (Stargazer Records). An album that even exceeded the high expections I had, after having listened to the tracks they presented earlier.
They continue here on the path with a more accoustic sound, with horns, mandolins and more added to the setup, moving a few steps away from the guitar-based indie rock they showed before. You’ll find a lot of fantasy, variation and strong melodies in this indie pop/rockish, folkish, wonderful music.

The duon Piroth consists of the sisters Nina and Johanna. They are on their way out with the new album “Safe Haven” and you can listen to and download the first singel from the record here below. And on their Myspace page you can find more songs from the upcoming album.
From what I’ve heard so far from the album, it sounds really interesting, and it’s a change to a fuller sound, compared with their earlier works. Folk music, pop, and classic singer/songwriter together with their two voices becomes a special fragile melancholy that feels unique.

Well, there’s a lot of thoughts about Fröken Underbar. And that’s where it starts. A thought become a word. And the words line up.
Sandra has a somewhat anarchistic view of how music should be written, she goes her own way and skips all so called rules. When she has found the words that descibe the most fragile point of the story, she sits down by the acoustic piano. Usually this results in drama, nerve, energy and dynamics that’s hard to master.
This is a song from their debut album “Mod.” They will begin recording the sequel right after summer. So, watch out for Fröken Underbar, as they move forward step by step.
