Today we have a song premiere here on the blog. It’s the band Honeymilk who tomorrow will release their new single “This Time Around (The Gods Won’t Save Me)”. It’s their second single after their debut in the Autumn with “It Might Be”, and I think they sparkle even more in this new song where they sound like an indie reincarnation of The Kinks. Lars Lindström from Billie the Vision & the Dancers released his solo debut, the single “Du tände mig”, in December. He calls himself Bräkne-Hoby, after the small community in Blekinge, southern Sweden, and the song feels a lot like Swedish pop of today combined with a classically contagious pop chorus. Here’s the song and the video.
As the band Mandylon has taken a long indefinite break, the singer Sven-Holger Rosenvinge focuses on a solo career. First up is the song “Bluebird” which was released in December, a melancholic ballad which grows in a beautiful and grand way, and my thoughts goes partly to Muse, both when it comes to the ambience and occasionally to Sven-Holger’s vocals. His voice feels quite special and has, as he writes himself, an androgynous side which he uses neatly in the variations and effects in the song. More songs are coming up soon.
Drivvedsfolket, whom I wrote about last Spring, have released the new single “Födelsedag” (“Birthday”) with two tracks where they blend contagious guitar figures, dance rhythms and garage distorted riffs. They feel Bob Hund-odd in their own special way.
Magnus Reimer started working with his solo debut, “Tidal Lock”, four years ago, and this Spring he’s going to release it. He’s picked three songs out of the fourteen album songs to give us a taste of what’s coming later. Magnus is a piano player, which is also what appears as the foundation in the songs, in the shape of effect-distorted piano or Rhodes piano. He has a special passion for synth sounds from the beginning of the eighties, and overall the reverb-heavy sound gives me a feeling of that decade, in a kind of electronica-influenced pop music which is both melodic and experimental.
