Pär Enqvist

It is with pride and joy that I now enter my Meadow blogging by presenting Pär Enqvist’s album “Här och Nu” (“Here and Now”, for those of you who don’t speak Swedish) as a free download.

This is straight, honest country smelling rock music from an artist that’s sure of what he does best and has refined that expression to it’s perfection. We get suggestive darkness in the opening track “Jag Tvekar” (“I doubt”), shuffle rukus in “Vinter Hos Mig”, (“Winter by me”) after thought in “En Starkare Man” (“A stronger man”), and some life embracing “come-into-my-arms-baby-and-you’ll-see-some-hot-stuff-rock-n’-roll” in “När Hon Är Hos Mig” (“When she’s with me”). We are told stories from deserted small town hotels. About the scaffolders on the roof tops of Stockholm. We get ponderings of life and love over a last shared cigarette, and it burns like its ember when promises are broken. Everything presented by the voice that at times feels as large as life itself.

I have turned this cd for some 18 months now and I sincerely see no signs of tiring! On the contrary, I constantly find new favourites! “Här och Nu” (“Here and Now”) is a collection of Pär Enqvist’s previous studio material. For those interested, I would like to recommend the official web site. (in Swedish)

Don’t miss out on Pär Enqvist!

Johan “John-John” Paulson

August 22, 2008 at 12:00 pm

Johan Paulson, or John-John as he calls himself, is a fantastic person in many ways. Musically he is found, among other places, as a former member of the Swedish grunge band Icke Lika Med, he has played with Håkan Hellström and performed at “Allsång på Skansen” (an extremely popular music show on Swedish TV) with his father, Mats Paulson!
It is now time for his own solo project under his own name and his own record company De las mercedes recordings with experimental, electronica/ambient songs.

To listen to the songs is like talking to or meeting Johan, it calms you down, and provides a comfortable feeling of love and warmth.

Now, here’s your chance to meet Johan, through his music. Here are three downloadable songs, and you can find much more on his web sites.

Billie the Vision and the Dancers

Billie the Vision and the DancersYou probably recognize that feeling of exaltation, that comes when you have discovered a new song or a band that’s so good that you know for sure that you will never grow tired of it. And you just want to hear it over and over again.

That’s exactly what I felt like, the first time I listened to Billie the Vision and the Dancers. I was also totally convinced that I alone had discovered a new great band…(don’t we all have a talent-scout inside of us?;-)). I was soon to discover though, that the band had been very productive, that they had released a number of albums, all free for downloading, and that they had thousands of fans. Well, my joy grew even bigger then!

Billie the Vision may be the coolest band on earth!

Skuggan

August 21, 2008 at 12:00 pm

Skuggan i replokalenThe band Skuggan is a new pleasant musical acquaintance. This is a band that has started over afresh, they made a control-alt-delete, as they themselves describe it, from the roots in the previous band Shade Tree. Below, you can listen to “Rör vid mig i igen” (“Touch Me Again”), a melancholic, beautiful, atmospheric, pensive song – expressed by Carl Jönssons light and soft voice.

At their current restart they have been mentioned on several other good music blogs, such as jacksoncage (in swedish) and skivgrisen (in swedish). Check them out.

What is perhaps equally interesting about Skuggan is how one can follow them on their journey on their web site, which is in blog format. They purvey a feeling of movement, a sense of who they are through what they write about. One can follow the development of the songs from early scetch, to rehearsal demo to the version you can listen to here. One can read about the band, personal thoughts and what they see and feel. Compared to traditional band sites where there are long bios and a separate news section, one can create one’s own image of who they really are and where they are going. And they are there with you, as they are only a comment away. I hope that more artists realize the strength of this concept and follow their example. (note: Their blog is in swedish)

Other songs you can listen to at the site, in different versions, are “Västergatan” and “Buena Vista” – the latter with pleasant Joni Mitchell vibes in my ears. And it is most likely that, by the time this piece is written and published, you will find new tracks to listen to, new stories to read and new reflections to take part of.

Shotgun Crackers

August 20, 2008 at 12:00 pm

What the Lund based band Brainpool left in the 90’s and the Gothenburg based band Bad Cash Quartet picked up at the beginning of the 21st century is now taken a step further by Shotgun Crackers from Norrtälje, north of Stockholm!

Don’t be fooled by the slightly metal sounding name. Shotgun Crackers offers a fantastic mix of great melodies, marvellous vocals (in that extremely cool childish way), accomplished musicians…..and….hand claps…..(there should definitely be more hand claps in songs!!), combined with pop music that, at times, closes in on the Beatles.

That’s what i think…

…make up your own mind:
