I’m wrapping up this Friday with some great rock’n’roll. It’s Terrible Feelings, hailing from Malmö, who serves us this from their latest EP “Backwood”. There’s energy, attitude, some punk nerve, melodies, a spacy lovely sound and a wonderful rock voice from Manuela Iwansson.

Marrakech, hailing from Umeå, whom I wrote about in Spring, released their debut album  “Minns ingenting” this Autumn. We find them on the same scene as before; it’s the early seventies and they play blues rock influenced by heavier bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple among others who are on their way of creating the hard rock genre. The sound is as basic as it can be: two guitars, a bass guitar, drums and vocals and besides some vocal harmonies I can’t hear any additional tracks in this production. What you can hear is exactly what you get when you get to see them live.

Today This Is Head released another single, “Repetition”, from their album “The Album ID”. And this time it’s something quite different and extra interesting they serve us. As it turns out the original song contains multiple shapes which are now revealed.

They write that if you listen carefully you can distinguish several ideas within the song, seemingly incompatible with each other. For one you can hear that the song has a rock drive which could be developed further, there is also a streak of dance rhythms throughout the song and finally there’s the ambient part, the chirping of birds as they describe it. For this release they picked these three elements out of the song and let them form three new songs, and added also the original song of course. A fascinating and fun single idea. Listen to all four versions here below where they’ve labeled the different versions as radio (rock), slow (ambient) and dance and then the original last. You can also watch a video to the radio version, where they clearly show what repetition means if you’re standing by the pool side. :)

Violet Vessel is a project created by Jimmy Sok, hailing from Lund. He released the EP “Heart” earlier this year, an EP he recorded in his bedroom during a year. He’s created a rather personal sound, like a blend of indie pop with playful guitar melodies and a more dense, repetitive shoegaze with distanced dubbed vocals. There’s some mood shifts on the EP from the dreamy, easygoing “Summersong” to the harder “Loud”, but there’s a red thread from the vocals and the room which makes it stick together just fine. The metal band Bloodlit, hailing from Borås, was formed in 2009. A couple of years later they released the EP “Take What’s Mine” and earlier this year the full length album “Dead On”. Well, I should I also mention that I got a press release today announcing that the band has made the official song for their hometown’s hockey team Borås Hockey: “Lions (Fight Under Pressure)“. Think about that, to see the home audience headbanging to heavy metal just have to give some extra fuel to the team.

“Dead On” is a great metal album, full of heavy, raw metal, in which they blend smooth melodies and some influences from classic hard rock from the  seventies and the eighties, but without compromising with the weight and the roughness in their rock sound. Add to that a good singer in Mladen Milojkovic and a great drive in the music and you get a band on their way of carving out their own sound in the metalrock stream. Here are two songs, where “God of Clay” may be my favourite from the album.
