The Mary Onettes continue to explore the eighties on their third album “Hit the Waves”, which was released in March. We could listen to the splendid single “Evil Coast” already in the Autumn, and there’s more of that on the album, but then more in the way of straight hooky pop melodies, which there are plenty of among the ten tracks. The Cure still feels like a point of origin for the music, from where the band in a nostalgic ambition goes hiking in the domains of synth pop and New Wave-pop. W&I is the duo Ola Wilhelm Tappert and Sandra Windahl, two film musicians that longed for creating dreamy indie electro pop. This has resulted in an EP that was released in the beginning of the year and now the new single “Dreamy Creature”. It’s grand-sounding and melodic which you can listen to here below, first in “Love Divine” from the EP and then in the above mentioned single.

Act Utd is the name of a pop trio from Göteborg, whose latest release is this song here below, “Religio”. It’s a beautiful cloud-soaring electronica pop track, with retro vibes from the late eighties/the early nineties, which reminds me of Enigma in the sacral ambience.

A little while ago Family Values released their third single, “Precis som jag” (“Just Like Me”), with a somewhat different ambience than in the last single, in this dreamy electro  pop. The lyrics was written by the author Alexander Kočí and the video here below consists of clips from Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Red Desert”.

Jackson Kelley is an american musician from Utah, whose instrumental project Einstein In a Patent Office was picked up by the Swedish label Mareld Records, to be released from here in Sweden. In March he released the EP “Supernova Sounds” from which you can listen to the track “Nadir” here below. It’s an imaginative, instrumental music, downtempo, where he plays with large spaces and various ambiences and styles.

There’s a pleasant flashback in the sound gallery with analogue pads and string sounds that remind me of Vangelis, while a lot of other sounds and beats draw me away from a pure retro vibe. In “Nadir”, here below, he lets jazz-soft guitar figures guide us through the track’s many  facets, with some passages that could’ve been part of a progressive rock song. Enjoyable and interesting music that works both in the background as well as something to indulge yourself in for a while.
