Sadness Theory is a solo project by the singer/songwriter Kattis. A single has been released, “Made of Things”, and an album also seems to be on it’s way. In the song “Made of Things”, which is about materialism and superficiality, I can sense a breath of Tori Amos and Regina Spektor, who are also among the influences Kattis writes about on her site. Min stora sorg is Ann-Sofie Lundin’s solo project, and recently she released her debut EP. I could describe the EP as fragments from a diary in a psalm format, accompanied by a school piano and a choir. It’s naked and liberatingly stripped, and works all the way. Interestingly the songs are not built according to the traditional pop structure with verses , bridges and so on. Instead it’s more like in dance music where the song is growing more and more.
The song and the video below, “Svarta ögon” was released in summer as a first single, and is present on the EP as a so called Live Edit version.

Last year I wrote about Mankku [mancko]‘s debut solo album “Festen har bara börjat”. This summer he released another two songs, “Gör så gott du kan” and “Släpp den lös”. The songs are recorded in what he calls dogma sessions, which I understand means that it’s all recorded live with all three musicians in the same session, without any overdubs and life lines. Mainly acoustic and recorded at Studio Intim in Oslo.

Joe Egan comes from Ireland and moved to Göteborg a couple of years ago where he started Madderfield in the beginning of last year. At the start of this summer he released the debut EP, 5 songs that first of all are based around Joe’s sensitive, expressive voice and his acoustic guitar. It varies in the vibe from english folk pop to a touch of country, with some hint of Nick Drake, but still with his very personal style.

Karl Buhre, singer in Alouatta, and his solo project I’ve told you about before. Now he’s released his debut EP “Fieldwork”, which continues along the shores where we found him the last time.
And it’s a wonderful EP, with it’s four tracks, made for lying down in the grass and letting the acoustic guitars roll in some white cloud shapes across the blue sky and dream away together with Karl’s special voice.
