André Sandström calls his solo project Tidens Ande, a project where he also gets help from other musicians from the neighbourhoods around Malmö on his new EP “Relationer”, where he performs a melancholic acoustic music poetry with beautiful melodies. The southern Swedish dialect sometimes makes it a little too easy to compare with other artists, but stillI find it inevitable to hear some of Mikael Wiehe in the songs, and Timbuktu who sometimes breathes some air into the music, especially in the more rhytmic back beat-songs. There lies a somewhat lonely, sad and thoughtful atmosphere over the music, even if he, in the beautiful  “Hjärta” here below, gets some company with Maja Fröberg as a duet partner.

Hjärta

A couple of weeks ago I got a mail from David Kihlberg where he asked me to listen to an interpretation of The Band’s “The Weight”, which he had recorded together with Sylvester Schlegel. I did and at the same time I found a collection of other interpretations and his own songs on his Soundcloud page. Among the songs you’ll find for example Bobby Bare’s “Detroit City” and Sam Cooke’s “Another Saturday Night”, which in David’s very personal care have become “Nu åker jag hem” and “Lördag”. His own songs are by no means any less, listen for yourself here below in the song “Bara natten som förstår”.

Here’s another song from MANKKU [mancko]’s dogma sessions in Oslo earlier this year, which he just uploaded:

Behind The Late Call we find Johannes Mayer, based in Stockholm, who recently released his third album “Pale Morning Light”. It’s a quite fitting name for the album, which has that ambience that arise when the sun’s first rays show up on the horizon. Beautiful, somewhat expectant, calm and still and nothing that bothers you.

The first song “Wandering Through An Empty Field” paints some brushstrokes of Coldplay, emphasized by the fact that Johannes’ voice tone reminds of Chris Martin’s. He never continues into the arena, though, and walk away in a different direction with a melodic, close, rhytmically varied singer-songwriter pop. It’s en even, dynamic album, that maybe miss those catchy songs which get stuck in your head, but with a such a pleasant experience as this, it doesn’t bother me at all.

Look at You Now

Heart-Sick Groan’s singer Johan Brännström has released a row of  singles and EP’s as a solo artist, where he and his guitar travels into classic Dylan-inspired grounds. It’s been a little more than a year since his last single, but now he’s back with three songs on the EP “New Set of Dreams”, containing some of his absolutely best songs so far. Beautiful, with memorable, simple melodies, where he finishes with this Simon & Garfunkel-vibing “In a Midsummer’s Night, which you can hear below.
