Lars Henrik Andersson recently released the two-track single “Dansa tills jag stupar”. The title song is an intense pop track which runs in an unusual septuple meter, a beat that turns out surprisingly sticky just as the catchy chorus. Henrik has had a long career in music and is most known for his membership in the bands Komeda and Ray Wonder, and he has also released music under the name The Clown.

A couple of weeks ago Vårum released the debut single “Scream”, a piece of cool, laidback disco-inviting electropop which wet the appetite for more. Today he’s releasing the debut EP “Disco Damaged” with another 4 tracks to enjoy. Behind Vårum we find Bjørn Thomassen, born and raised on Lofoten in Norway, but nowadays living in London. The inspiration comes from the cold desolated nights in the big city, he writes, but you can just as well imagine sparkling ice flakes and a vast, mighty sea when you hear the music. He’s not only aiming for the dancefloor here, he wants us to take a pause and just listen as well on a varying and quite dynamic album. I can sense some nostalgic vibes from older synthpop and some hints of Alan Parsons Project also, but there’s no doubt that the songs belong on the electronica scene of today and should be fit to fill some floors in London clubs in the time to come.

Here’s a band that directly made a big impression on me when I heard their music the first time last week. With a 4-piece line-up that includes both double bass and accordion they create a grand, epic ambience which sends shiver of pleasure down my spine when the songs peak. They play Americana, with a fateful and sometimes dramatic vibe where the singer Daniel Renström has both the strength and the right blackness in his voice to carry this home. So far they have released a single with two tracks, which you can listen to here below. If you’re in Stockholm on the 23rd of October you can go and see them perform at Pet Sounds Bar.

The trio Rooni, with the songwriter Gustav Nilsson at the front, have just released their new EP “YODO”. The title is an acronym for “You Only Die Once”, paraphrasing the popular expression YOLO. Gustav writes that he became a first time father a year ago, an experience that made him start thinking about his own mortality, which is now reflected in these songs. It is hardly a gloomy collection of songs, though, rather the opposite. It feels life-affirming and the EP is full of uplifting, playful indiepop. The songs have a straight-on approach with simple, catchy choruses, stirring bass melodies and a nice unpolished sound which makes it feel like they’ve just been pulled out, smoking hot, from the power pop oven.
