Emelie Molin and Victoria Skoglund, also members in the band Audrey, form the duo Mire Kay. Recently they released their debut EP, “Fortress”, an EP full of folk indie painting their own, beautiful, slightly mellow, soothing atmosphere in the room.

No big gestures, but soft brushstrokes of first of all cello, guitars and vocals but also with banjo, slide and stripped arrangements, which create a special feeling in the music.

Sea Monster

Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long for the new music from Skånske Arne & Jonny Spöge, whom I wrote about a little while ago. Recently they released their debut EP “-Kommande Fantastiska…” (“The upcoming fantastic…”)

They continue to strike, with surgical precision, at remarkable situations in our society, and hacked Hotmail accounts as well as TV cooking shows are being targeted. The EP ends, though, with the autobiographic “Pappas Lapp” (“Daddy’s note”), but even that song contains a certain amount om complaining.

Here below you can listen to “Äta på kåppra” (“Eating at kåppra”), a nostalgic complaint from the times where you could eat at Konsum’s restaurant, and you were sitting there with a queue number in hand but couldn’t really hear from the speakers which numbers they announced. Something many of us have experienced.

Johnny & I is a band from Göteborg/Vara, who recently released the EP “While You Stand Still”. They create indie rock that gets that extra emotional tension with a singer that really makes their songs stand out.

Like Their Medicine

Today it’s about Vacancy Labour, a band hailing from Linköping, which I think can give rise to quite different associations when you listen to their music. I’m thinking of dance-friendly rock from the end of the eighties/the early nineties and also a little about Alan Parsons Project from the early eighties.

What These Times Show

I’m going to finish this week with a couple of tracks from Acid House Kings’ latest album “Music Sounds Better With You”. This is pop so light, so light, it feels like running up in the clouds. It’s indie pop with vibes from the sixties with light, lush arrangements.

They have an almost diabolic ability to creat chorus melodies that stick between the hammer and the incus right after listening to them once. And beside these choruses they fill the songs with wellcrafted riffs, instrument lines and oh-oh-choir-melodies. How many melody hooks can a brain take in after listening to an album with ten songs? Well, try it for yourself.
