If your longing for bands like Ramones and Dead Kennedys, that could play through their entire discography within a very short span of time, you’ve come to the right place.  Quit Your Dayjob’s new album “Word Domination” contains 16 songs which they get through in about 24 minutes.

It’s their third album since they started out in Malmö in 2000, and the first one in four years. And punk it is, but also Devo-inspired synths and provoking humour plus some metal and a bunch of surf guitars.

It’s direct, different, playful and with lyrics that the audience certainly will learn directly at the gig and sing-a-long to. An album that you can’t be indifferent to. You can find Quit Your Dayjob on Facebook and you can listen to the album on  Spotify.

Environmental

BST, hailing from Växjö, consists of four young men, and last year they won the national competition Musik Direkt in Sweden. With Oskar Jacobssons nice vocals in the front, they create a tasteful hard rock, a hard rock that I would like to place in the vicinity of the glam rock quarters of the eighties, just before it became more glam than rock. Add then a dose of blues vibes and some other influences.

Wraptors say that they don’t follow any rules. Of course that’s impossible, which they realize themselves as they add: “Well…maybe a few. But not on purpose…”

When I listen I’m beginning to understand what they mean. The sound in itself is not the odd thing about them, neither the riffs, but the songs, the melodies, the harmonies and how all this is arranged. In a way it feels like a post grunge rocker has joined a couple of progressive rockers, a Zappa fan and a metal guitarist, but they twist it, making it hard to make any direct genre-comparisons, even if I somewhere hear the influences.

Many times it feels kind of backwards, and sometimes when I think I just have gotten into a chord-melody sequence that feels “normal”, they make a hard turn and lure me away.

It’s their album “Held High” I’m listening to, a challenging album that requires attention and quite a few listens. I like challenges and I also liked this album, which was both fun and interesting to listen to. And I’m starting to get a hang of it now…

To Beat a Beast

Stormakten is the name of a duo that will release their first single “Söderut” in June. Sofar they have presented two songs on their Bandcamp page and it’s a nice combo of electro and indie, of synths and whining guitars. It will be interesting to listen to more songs from Stormakten in the time to come.

Psychadelia band Mono Stereo are preparing for the launch of their debut album, to be released later this summer. As a first taste of  the album they are releasing the two-track single “Girl, I Love Yo”, where you can listen to the title track here below. One of their best songs so far I think.
