Niels Nielsen released the album “”Welcome To The Promising Land of Hi5ers and Hopeless People” earlier this year. A rather dark album, which at first was hard to get into, but after giving it som more attention a very special album and artist appeared in front of me.

He moves somewhere in between Radiohead’s experimenting disted world and Beck’s lo-fi-acoustic work. Mixing dark disorted tracks with electronica and acoustic songs. Quite unique to my ears and varied.

Crawling Home
The Birds

Barrett Elmore started out as a trio in 2008 and played from the beginning a raw, instrumental blues. Soon they moved over to psychadelia and music inspired by this and when the singer Mikaela joined the band they found the style and sound which is reflected in their music today.

This has resulted in their debut album “Woodlands” which was finished a few days ago. It’s obvious that Pink Floyd is one of the big influences, as they also state in the band name, but they bring more ingredients to the sound. Overall there is a soothing, nature-mystique ambience in the album, which reminds of the endless, eternal, nordic woods, which is the theme of the album, and the spots of swedish folk melancholy emphasizes this further.

The Nixie
Dusk (Dance of the Pixies)

Gustaf Montelius presents his solo project The Fiery Piano as bedroom pop music. A little more than a month ago he released “Sirens EP”, an album recorded in his bedroom, full of beautiful and personal music.

It’s mellow, but still with a feeling of warmth together with nice melodies and a special voice. You can listen and download the EP on his Bandcamp page or listen on Spotify. You can also find The Fiery Piano on his site.

Siren

Petter Söderberg, earlier member of Amical, calls himself Chikan as a solo artist. He has recently released an EP, “I Like You Better (When You’re Drunk)”.

With electronica mixed with dirty indie, catchy phrases and a personal voice, this makes a very interesting album.

I Like You Better (When You’re Drunk)

Pokerface, aka Staffan Heidevik, released his new album “Transeo” a little while ago. It’s an exciting album full of experimentation and if I attempt to describe it I’d say it’s about a dense and dramatic mix of  jazz-electronica and progressive rock , largely instrumental. Sometimes I hear something that reminds me of David Bowie and his experimental music from the nineties.

Interestingly half of the songs are recordings from concerts, which I really like as it brings out the depth and the grandness in the music and a sensation of a massive live experience.

The album is a collaboration between Staffan, guitarist Mattis Karlsson, drummer Olle Prim and multi-instrumentalist Per Ericsson plus a number of guest musicians, among them Mike Lloyd and jazz virtuoso Bryan Baker.
