Here’s a song by Jon Mårtensson, who creates music which he calls melancholic field recording-hop. This means that he records sounds out in the field, turns them into rhythms and tones, and then combines them with electronica into compositions and songs. Accustomed readers of this blog may be a little surprised  how I start this week, i.e. with some heavy thrash metal from Crowdburn, a band hailing from Umeå. Most often I’ve kept away from these domains of rock, but after having exposed myself to this metal energy during The Roskilde Festival this summer, it got to me, and my music menu is now even wider.

Crowdburn’s debut album “Ignition” is an excellent opportunity to express this new passion. It’s a splendidly raw rock album, but which also offers just the right dose of sweetness in the form of melodic smooth choruses. Add to that a fine variation and genre mixes and you’ll have an album that will keep you interested through all ten songs. Here’s a couple of songs from this raw beauty.

I have presented The Litsos here before as a duo. They have now grown to a five membered band, though, and have moved their base of operations from the north of Sweden to Göteborg. And they have grown with their music and their productions as well, here with the single “Dance Like Children”, the first one in a series of three. The inspiration still comes from the eighties’ New Wave and postpunk scene, but it’s starting to sound more and more like The Litsos than like anything else.

Here’s another old acqaintance from the blog. It’s Zacke who’s been working with Movits! and deliver smooth hip hop on this fresh video from today, “Halvvägs” (“Halfway”), a song about shortcomings. The song is taken from Movits!’ new album “Huvudet bland molnen“.

Tikkle Me started out as a duo a few years ago by Frida Herchenröther and Karin Taberman, and blog followers with a good memory may remember Frida from the electro pop band Spectroscope, which we wrote about before. The last years the duo has expanded into a shifting collective, adding dancers, choirs and others, who on the live concerts interweaves dance, projections and art, which they describe as more of a performance art show than just a music concert.

The studio reordings have also grown, if I compare with their debut album from 2010, which you can hear on their recently released singles “Niagara” and “Time to Act”. Here they show a beautiful, powerful orchestral pop, which reminds me more than once of Kate Bush. These songs are produced by Niels Nielsen and the video to “Niagara” is directed by Johan F. Wahlberg.
