The Good Morning Spider – “Outergalactic” – album

I showed you some of The Good Morning Spider, hailing from Malmö, in February. In the end of March the excellent debut album”Outergalactic” was released, an album full of psychadelia influences and laidback, creative rock. Here are two songs:

The band Hunt, hailing from Göteborg, with the postrock-vibing song “Reset My Bones”. The song is based on a poem by Andrea Gibson, a poem she recites in the song. Video by Mats Udd.

KLoN

KLoN – “För högt/Hade du vart kvar”

We’ve met Jonnie Holmberg before as a drummer in Lilla Milo, a band I wrote about earlier this Spring. He has formed the producer duo KLoN together with Johannes Hansson, a duo that work with the conept that each song is sung by a different artist. So far they have released two singles, “För högt” and “Hade du vart kvar”, sung by Andrea Hatanmaa and Jonnie Holmberg repectively. It’s wonderful mix of soul funk and pop with a more contemporary angle on the the first one and a retro-seventies vibe on the second song. Listen for yourself:

Saintway – “It’s Over now”

The two brothers John and Adam Kristiansson, hailing from Lund, form the duo Saintway. A couple of weeks ago they released the debut single, “It’s Over Now”, a well produced track which breathes of countrypop, decorated with beautiful melodies and neat vocal harmonies.

Beat the Heart – “Waiting For a Sequel” – EP

I bumped into the band Beat the Heart a couple of times last year, and their “Glebe Market” became a favourite of mine. They have a new EP out now, “Waiting For a Sequel”, with grand, ambient pop, from which I’d be happy to share a couple of tracks with you:

Caravan Cult – “Escape the Looney Bin”

Here are two songs from Caravan Cult’s debut EP “Escape the Looney Bin”. It’s a great debut from the band, with a pleasant melancholy in their indiepop/rock, a bit in the direction of The National.

Danmarck – “ole ola”

Richard Ahlgren and his Danmarck continue to deliver great, intense rock tracks. Here are the two latest ones, “ole ola” and “ali Khan”, where he thanks Wilco, new wave and Pearl Jam’s “Olé” in the subtexts to the first song.

Vindstyrka12 – “Ser jag er igen” – video

Vindstyrka12 is a band from Göteborg, led by the singer and songwriter Jon Lyster. As a taste of the upcoming album “För det du vet att du älskar” (release in June) they have released the single and video “Ser jag er igen”. And it’s hard to miss Jon’s anger in this song, a song that was written after he got robbed on his way home from a pleasant night out on the town. This is not only about the contempt for other people from the muggers themselves, but also about a chilly society where we shut our eyes and turn away from what’s happening right in front of us on the street. The song becomes a raging rock protest with a clenched fist against this. To me Jon is a new, fresh voice I’d love to hear more from.

Ironically the video was taken down after only a few days on Youtube. Youtube stated that the content was too violent and threatened to close Jon’s account, but he has uploaded the video again, as you can see below.

Supralunar – “Nine Candles” – video

The trio Supralunar have released a couple of singles while we’re waiting for their debut album, which is said to be scheduled for release in the Autumn.  We’ve heard the excellent “People Like Us” before and here’s the second one “Nine Candles” with a video that well reveals their sources of inspiration, as they dress themselves through the history of rock.

Magnus Bergman – “En riktig djävul”

This year Magnus Bergman celebrates 15 years as an artist and a few days ago he released the album “MB15” with 15 previously unreleased songs from his career between 1999 and 2014. Some of them come from his diligent song production last year, , but he serves us plenty of other samples from his career like for example this pop-pearl from 2005, “Duellera” and the newest track, the bluesy “En riktig djävul”. The last mentioned song will also be a part of his sixth solo album, to be released in the Autumn.

Humfree Bug Art

Humfree Bug Art – “Hawaii”

One of my favourite bands from last year, Humfree Bug Art, are back with a new single. “Hawaii” is the main attraction,  a song the singer Arvid Jonsson describes as “a gay love song, sung by bearded straight men.”.

Sibirien – “Eld”

Sibirien is a project run by David Björk. In the Autumn he released the debut EP “Snart regnar stormen in” and a couple of weeks ago the new single “Eld”. Here he’s hooked up the large reverbs from the eighties in a fine, melancholic song, which give me a ceratain feeling of being a movie soundtrack.

Raindear – “Grown Ups”

Behind Raindear we find the singer Rebecca Bergcrantz. Earlier this year she released the debut EP “The Game” and now the video to one of the songs on the EP, “Grown Ups”, is also available.

The Jamhouse Riot – “City Lights Out”

The Jamhouse Riot, whom I wrote about in 2012, are announcing a series of three singles. First up is this track, “City Lights Out”, their own mix of hard rock and garage rock, bitwise with vibes of Guns’n’Roses.

Johan Reinhold

Johan Reinhold – “Feel For You”

“Feel For You” is Johan Reinhold’s warm tribute to his mother, who passed away a year ago of cancer. Here you’ll also find the explanation to why Johan took a pause from the music, even though he was in the middle of the success with his songs, among them “Shoot Me Down“, which I wrote about. He writes that he went through a hard time and he yearned for the opportunity to be able to tell his mother how much she meant to him. He did this in the best way possible: with this song.

The song is also his way of picking up his music career where he left it, and is one of the two songs of the single “Closing Doors”, due for release May 12th. All net proceeds will go to charity to help fight cancer.

HvH – “Cause of Your Destruction”

HvH stands for “Hammar village heights” and is the name of a new indie trio from the outskirts of Stockholm. Their debut single is called “Cause of Your Destruction”, a hymn-like electro pop song, rather naked but yet grand. The song is also a part of a new election campaign album for F! (Swedish feminist party). It’s an album with songs from 65 artists, well known as well as less known artists, among them Robyn, The Knife, Nina Persson, Crucified Barbara, The Bear Quartet, Ane Brun and many others. A quite unique initiative in Swedish politics.

White Birches – “Stands of White Birches” – EP

The electro pop duo White Birches, Jenny Gabrielsson Mare and Fredrik Jonasson, promised us an EP this Spring, and now they’ve fulfilled that promise with the new four-track collection “Stands of White Birches”. It’s about dark, dreamy, beautiful melodies and with a sort of muffled electro pop sound. We’ve heard two of the songs before, and one of the songs “The End of The Line” was on my list of the best songs of last year. With the new “Take Me Dancing” they show us that their source of inspiration is certainly still there:

Square – “The Reversed Spanish Chair”

It’s been almost six years since I wrote about the band Square. They are now in the process of releasing their fourth album “The Reversed Spanish Chair”, and I notice that they haven’t lost any energy since the last time. Not the least, and they’ve been doing this since 1998, music that could be described as a mix of garage rock and ska with a turbo engine built into it. I’d even say that they sound better than ever.

I said that they were in the process of releasing the album, which actually means that they are releasing the album song by song; every other week a new track is presented until August later this year. So far they’ve shown us three songs. Here are two of them:
