I thought it was best to continue with the party atmosphere from yesterday. Well, it is Saturday and I’m still in my dressing gown, enjoying the long Saturday morning. Out of the speakers comes the music from Salut!Machaut and everything just feels great.

Yes, Salut!Machaut really is a happiness pill to enjoy. Here’s the nice lightheartedness that can be heard from bands like Belle and Sebastian and Aberfeldy. Nice contagious melodies, brass, beautiful flutes, hand claps, choirs and a lot more, well everything you need for a musical feast.

Just like you can suspect when you listen to their recorded music, they are also a much appreciated live band. If you are in the neighbourhood of Göteborg the 16th of December I recommend a visit to the eminent live club Maydaysticky in Göteborg, to enjoy this.

Lashing Patsy feels like party for me. Energy, excitement, happy music and happy people. A little bit of glam but more spontaneity and playfulness. Even if I sometimes hear Indie pop in their music, it’s mostly the seventies I think about when I listen to Lashing Patsy. Blondie, some Roxy Music, a bit of glam rock and a bit of new wave and lot of good pop melodies. It’s also nice with two singers, Anna Rosander and Johan Hammarsten, whose interplay and collaboration give the band more character.

Last spring they released their debut album, “Nightclub Trophies”, produced by Jens Anderson (9Voltstudio, The Ark). Here below you’ll find two tracks from the album:

Twiggy Frostbite, taste that name. I don’t know where it comes from or what it means exactly, but I do think it feels perfect for their music. Like sparkling icicles in a starlit winter night. It’s exciting and a little mysterious with cool melodies that squiggles through a fantastic sound space. The misty voice of Elin Lindfors is the magic wand that turns this into something really special.

After the the singer Elin Lindfors collaboration with David Lehnberg in The Deer Tracks, which I wrote about in August, Twiggy Frostbite are now preparing for their debut album “Through Fire” (Despotz Records). It’s about to be released in the beginning of February next year, and in the meantime we can enjoy a track from the album, “Heroes”.

Obliq is an exciting band from Göteborg, and it’s rather hard to compare them directly with other bands. If I would try to describe them somehow I would say that it’s the melancholy from Kent that meets Radiohead with a little of Broder Daniel and upon this some electronica. The Radiohead -likeness is helped also by the similarities between the vocals of the singer Anders Lagerfors and Thom Yorke.
It’s dreamy and mellow, interesting melodies and songs that sometimes breaks out in grand Coldplay-like sceneries.

Last spring they released their debut album “Antenna” (Conelove Records, Thomason Sounds), from where the tracks below come. This autumn they have recorded a new single, produced by Matt Kent (Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry, Portishead et al) which will be released in February next year. And I’m happy to tell you that they have promised to share the single with us here at Meadowmusic when it’s ready. After the single release awaits a tour around Europe.

Two years ago, I heard Kristin Kyrielle for the first time. Then she had recorded some songs with just piano and vocals and was on her way to record her first demo. I listened to the songs over and over again at home in my studio. There was something bombastic and some sad beauty in the songs. I was totally spellbound by her voice.

Then, when her first demo was released, it was with great anticipation, I threw myself over the songs “Faith”, “Moonbeam”, “Notebook of happy thoughts” and “Who replaced the sun”. First, I was a little disappointed … it was like something else now, now that she had a band. But after listening many times the songs stuck like a wet tongue on a frosty lamp-post in winter. I was caught again.

There’s something magical about these songs. The little quirky vocal loops, the highly distinctive voice and stylish choirs together with the dark pop-style the band delivers, make the songs simply irresistible. A bit like sushi. The first time you don’t really get it, but after eating 4-5 times you’re hooked up…

Since then she has recorded an EP “Hurt ‘til It Bleeds”. The EP with four songs is available on the band’s site, and here is a taste of it with the tracks “Believe” and “Hurt ‘til It Bleeds”.
