Twiggy Frostbite acoustic

January 6, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Twiggy FrostbiteIn the beginning of December I presented Twiggy Frostbite here on Meadowmusic. This was very much appreciated, judged by the responses afterwards. Therefore I thought it would be appropriate to throw in an extra bonus today; recordings from a radio session this Christmas. Naked, acoustic in Swedish national radio, and I think this is magical. Listen for yourself:

Heroes (live acoustic)
Messy Star (live acoustic)

Iubar

January 5, 2009 at 2:09 pm

IubarIubar’s songs grow more and more as I listen to them. They don’t rush ahead, but carefully builds seductive ambiences, with a mixture of pop structures and oriental influences. And this mix they do really good.

If I should find som references, I would say that they combine modern melancholic pop from for example Doves, with psychadelia from the Beatles. I even think I hear a sitar somewhere, and definitely some pump organ :-)

This autumn they released their debut aIbum “Invitation II Dig” (Smilodon Records), from where you can listen to som tracks here. You’ll find Iubar on their site and on Myspace if you want to listen more.

Mokadas

MokadasMokadas, a duo consisting of Jonas Lindér and Peder Andersson, released their debut album this autumn (Hjördisc Records). I listened to them quickly a while ago, but I didn’t get it, so I put it aside for awhile. A month ago I gave it a new chance, this time with a little more attention and yes, now i got it. Like a teasel I can’t get rid of and want to listen to over and over again.

They have a unique sound, where I think anyone can find their own references, depending on where you come from musically. Someone described them as an updated The Doors, which is a good description. For me it’s like a garage punk-new wave meets powerpop, Bowie and Psychadelic Furs spiced up with some Talking Heads.

Listen for yourself in a couple of songs here. If you’d like to discover some more of them I suggest you visit Mokadas on Myspace and on Hjördisc Records.

Slow Motion Club

Slowmotion ClubTo me, Slow Motion Club from Lund is indie pop when indiepop is at it’s best. Good, catchy, playful melodies, personal vocals and a basic, guitar based nice sound. And first of all, songs that stick in my mind and want to be played over and over again.

When I listen to Slow Motion Club I’m reminded of another favourite band of mine: Manic Street Preachers. If I peel of the grand sound of these, I find a similar songwriting with the same mellow feeling and melodies that find new ways, to be interwoven again in a nice way.

Enjoy three tracks by Slow Motion Club. To listen more you should visit Slow Motion Club on Myspace.
