Today I’ll present a couple of songs from FuFFenS’, hailing från Hälsingland, album “Tveeggad” that was released in October. It’s a really good and diverse album where they have crafted their very own style and the associations I get enters from different directions as I listen. I hear Jakob Hellman, garage rock, some Bo Kaspers Orkester, indie pop, a whiff of Hälsingland and of course a bunch of great songs with good melodies.
On their way towards the albumet “Braided Memos” which will be released April 20th, the duo Sameblod have released the song “Loud” as a first taste. And “Loud” certainly deserves it’s name in this bombastic electronica pop. It still echoes in my room and my chair is vibrating from the deep bass.
Behind the artist name Pro424 you’ll find Max Karlander. The name comes from the word project and the name of the Tascam portable studio Max used for his first recordings. He’s released two albums so far and the latest one, the EP “Dreams” was released in December; an album with mainly electronica pop fit for the dance floor. The first album “Soundtrack of a Frozen Time”, was released a year ago and went in a completely different direction with more chillout and ambient music.
Here is the latest single from pop experimental Fortune Cookies Blues, “Where Is My Plough”. This suggestive, dreamy song was created around the sound of falling water drops from a leaking tap and all the chords and harmonies have their origin in the band playing along to this sample, a sample which is still in the song.
The band name is a little different and I asked them how they came up with it:
Originally Fortune Cookies Blues is the name of a little piece of art music, and this name simply stuck in the back of the head about ten years ago. When this project was starting to take shape, the name surfaced again. It soon became the working name, even before the songs were named. Initially it was the sound and the feeling of the name that felt instinctively right, and the more we worked with the music the more fitting the significance of the name felt.
FCB’s songs and lyrics is grasping after the feeling of not being comfortable with the place in the fate lottery you have reached, a longing for something abstract “else” or “elsewhere”. Like a sorrow and a longing in one, a blues over the text line from the fortune cookie. (translated from Swedish)

Josef Kå, hailing from Malmö, released in November their debut EP “Lusthuset”, an album that gives me somwhat mixed emotions. The music moves from soft pop ballads to funk pop. The funkier parts don’t grab my attention at all as they feel a little too cautious and lack the expression to hook me up, but in the more straight pop parts it works really good. It’s at it’s best in the two pop ballads you can listen to here below, where their sense of melodies, vocal harmonies and the rather naked sound makes a beautiful combination.
