After a summer break it’s time again to get started with a new season. Even if I’ve been on vacation myself, the music has continued to pour into my mailbox, which meands that I have quite a list of great music to write about in the time to come.
First up is Henning with the single “För blå” (“Too Blue”), a single he released in the beginning of summer. It’s not the first time we write about Henning; we’ve written earlier about Armadillo King, which he called himself when he sang in English. Later he developed that concept into a band, Armadillo Five and then Armadillo, but when he sings in Swedish he’s Henning.
What I like the best with Henning is his vocals, which are just as strong if he sings in English or if he sings in Swedish, which is obvious also in this song. The music has an air of Peter LeMarc, but turns into something different with Hennings voice. You can follow Henning on his site and the music is also available on Spotify.
Kate and After, whom I’ve written about before, is back with a new single, “The Game”. According to the band, this is a first taste of their upcoming debut album, which will be released during Fall this year. The collaboration with the producer Henryk Lipp continues and I think the sound feels even better now compared to the earlier EP. More open and bigger, and singer Magnus Lindqvist has never sounded better with his special expression.
Crying Day Care Choir charmed us a couple of years ago with their folk pop tune “July”. Now they are back with the debut EP in the same musical spirit, the acoustic flower power-vibing “Join the Joyful Revolution”.
And the message is clear: they want to make the world a better place through flowers and love. They also contribute in a more direct way by giving all the profits from the digital release to Yoko Ono’s peace organization Imagine Peace.
About the band name Jack from the band writes:
In the beginning it was meant to refer to how it sounds when children cries uncontrollably in a group. If you ignore the hysteria, they can, in the middle of the sobbing, hit common tones and it sounds like magic.
Then after a while we found that the name also can relate to our purpose with the band; our wish and quest for a better world. Because if you have a “Crying Day”, who doesn’t need a “Care Choir” then? It feels applicable to the world’s situation too :)
Petter Hillström is back with his project Hillström & Billy’s third album, “All the Sprouts Bowed Their Heads”. And again he’s managed to create an album that grows each time I listen. This time it feels more low-voiced and ambient than before. The nice pop melodies are there, but first of all I notice a strong Americana influence like a thread through the album, further emphasized by the strands of banjo and steel guitar.
A little more than a year ago I wrote aboutNiklas Krig. Then he was working with debut album, but this work was paused for some time. During Spring he started up again, exposing new tracks from the upcoming album. On the melancholic, beautiful “Take Me Away” he shows another sample of a piano-based pop song with a desolate feeling, well with almost a sacral vibe to it.
