Today Turn Off Your Television released another video and song as a rehearsal before the album release next week. From the first listen I’ve had of the new album, this is one of my absolute favourites, “Planets Will Collide For You”. This song and also “Blanket of Shame” from the same album can be downloaded on their site.

In Spring Lasse Franck released his debut album “Lilla Svärje” (appr. “Little Sweden”). Already in 2008 we showed two of the songs in early versions, which are now featured on the album in new clothes. The album starts with some songs with hard swinging political satire about the order in Sweden today, or disorder if you like. I think it hits the best in “Nu börjar det roliga”, which is a wild jape about how we treat our elders today. The song is actually written before the scandals around Carema last year, and if the album had been released before that, the song would have been an obvious theme song for that debate..
The album then head on in different directions, and we can get into seriousness, love and other contemplations. He turns perspectives around and plays with images in the well refined lyrics, which he performs as if every line was at stake. A skilled word smith, as I wrote before, who can turn a sligthly ironic line into a hard punch with a single word.
The album is produced by Håkan Svensson from Nationalteatern, and the sound makes me think of Swedish pop from the end of the eighties/the beginning of the nineties, with some kind of starting point at Jacob Hellman’s place, but which they have run through the mill and dirtied with hard distorted guitars, hammond and other stuff. I like especially that I-kicked-in-the-speaker-membrane-guitar, which is present in several songs.

Here’s a lovely, dreamy pop song with beautiful melodic sadness from Cajsa Siik, who released this debut single in the beginning of the month. The song is taken from her upcoming debut album “Plastic House”.

Kid Carbuncle is a project created by Gustaf Classon, who together with the producer Andreas Bolt create an interesting pop. Earlier this summer they released the EP “a Binary Blues”, an EP with pop which is a mix of indie and electro, with good melodies. The song that fascinates me the most is the first track “Hologram”, with the somewhat rough synth ambience, and the catchy refrain.

Today I’m listening to Magnus Bergman’s fourth solo album “Ljusspår”. And I like what I hear, the best I’ve heard from Magnus so far. With flangy sixties’ guitars and a double bass in the frontline he manages to create his own warm sound. A sound with which he can safely wander between the songs and the style variations without losing anyone; from early Direstraits-rock to country rock to folk pop and even some rockabilly doses. And Magnus himself sings with a comfortable, relaxed expression, conveying the theme of the album, which is about the story of a man who finds his way home in life, first of all within himself. A classy album, both when it comes to songwriting and production.
