Night – “Across the Ocean”

February 17, 2015 at 1:17 pm

“Across the Ocean” is the first single from Night’s upcoming album “Soldiers of Time” (release 2/3). The band have found their way back to a wonderful, unpolished sound from the early eighties’ British heavy metal, when bands like Saxon and Iron Maiden grew big, and just before everyone move into large bombastic halls. “Soldiers of Time” is their first album since the eponymous debut in 2013.

Rideau – “Ecstasy”

October 28, 2014 at 4:44 pm

Here’s the second single from Rideau, “Ecstasy”, a song where they pick up the speed and seem to have pushed all the sweaty rock energy they’ve got into the track. It’s frenetic rock with a stroke of metal and hardcore but they have their own path just outside these genres. They even surprise with a brilliant saxophone solo! in the middle of the song. Hopfully we get to hear an album from the band soon.

Rock party in Malmö

Rock på KB i Malmö

The 19th of July Dead End Records invites you to a rock party at KB in Malmö. The want to open up people’s eyes in Malmö for new rock bands in a time when the already established acts are dominating the gig market. The bands that haven’t climbed to the top of the ladder are often struggling with a hen-and-the-egg-problem: no fanbase – no gig, no gig – no fanbase.

Dead End Records takes it into their own hands by showcasing four great bands that deserve a bigger audience. If you arrive between 19.00 and 20.00 it’s even free to enter, after that only 50 kr.

The four bands Demotional, Carubine, Deceptic and Supralunar span over a wide spektra of rock and metal:

Demotional serves a melodic metal with plenty of energy. The debut album “State: In Denial” was released last year and here’s the latest single “Illusions”, released earlier this year.

Carubine is a trio that mix influenses from the seventies’ hard rock with alternative rock and grunge from the nineties, into their own brew with a great groove. Here are two of their singles.

Supralunar is a band I’ve written about before, and they also bring some influences from the seventies to the table where they blend it with nineties’ rock, but with more focus on vocal harmonies and catchy melodies. “People Like Us” here below is a great example. New album this Autumn.

Deceptic has only presented an album teaser this far, but it sounds interesting to say the least. Progressive metal with grand-sounding choruses is one description of the album which will be released at the end of August.

New singles from The Virtues, The Grand Trick, Rideau and LGCY

The Virtues

The Virtues

Here’s a new Friday collection with new singles, after a rather sporadic blog week. Rock is the common denominator this time.

The Virtues – “Let the Fish Spawn”

The Virtues are back with their fresh seventies rock sound, here in the single “Let the Fish Spawn”, taken from the compilation album “Yesteryears”. With four full length records in their backpack they also celebrate their ten years anniversary as a band this year.

The Grand Trick – “The Daily Dose”

The rock band The Grand Trick have been working with the producer Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan among others), who created a mix of the the song “The Daily Dose”. I think he really nailed this song, a song which was released in a different version last year, and is now being released as a single. It comes out as a dense rock track with a great drive and with vibes from the American nineties as well as a hint of the seventies.

Rideau – “Stand Still”

Now it’s a bit heavier rock with Rideu and their debut single “Stand Still”. They’ve created quite an interesting sound with their own mix of metal, stoner rock and hardcore. The band was formed by Gabriel Öberg and Carl Magnus Palm after the breakup of InSekt and are working on their debut album right now.

LGCY – “Noises”

I’ll finish with some indie rock from the band LGCY, who released this debut single, “Noises” in January.
