KallocaiN – “Birds and the Bees”

KallocaiN

Here’s another band who’s returning after a longer period of absence. It’s KallocaiN, hailing from Norrköping, who’s announcing a new album in Spring with the release of this single with the songs Birds and the Bees” and “Walls”. They surprise me a bit with “Birds and the Bees”, a seemingly languishing, classic rock ballad with echoes from the eighties, but which they still turn into their own indie-sounding atmosphere.

Leo Kall – “Newtons lagar”

Leo Kall - "Newtons lagar"

Leo Kall always speaks the truth. He is settled on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons, and is recording various sound phenomenas from the planetary system. He sends these cryptic recordings, through a big radio tower, to a band in Skåne, Sweden. With this material also comes a few honest lines with his impressions from the situation here on earth. The band, Leo Kall, interprets what they are sent and create music from it on stage.

This is the setup for the band Leo Kall‘s music, which is a setup inspired by Karin Boye’s novel Kallocain. And the Swedish lyrics, with their truths about our lives, are the focus of the songs, backed up by some unpolished indie rock.

Their latest work is called “Newtons lagar” (“The laws of Newton”) and was released in December last year. You can listen to and download this EP on Leo Kall’s Bandcamp page. You can also find the band on Facebook and on Spotify.

Kallocain – “Between Two States”

Kallocain“Between Two States” is what Kallocain, hailing from Norrköping, has called their debut album. I get a feeling that this could have been one of Radiohead’s side projects that never was released, in the end of the nineties. At the same time I get vibes from the seventies, americana and singer/songwriter. It all blends into a mix where I’m thrown between softer tracks with beautiful acoustic guitars and tracks with dirty indie guitars, all in a common mellow atmosphere.

It’s an even and interesting album, where each song deserves attention, which made it hard to choose two songs you can listen to. The first track “Firecracker” below, is the track that differs most from the other songs on the album, with more pop vibes and synth sounds.

You can listen to “Between Two States” on Spotify or on Ge.tt. You can also find Kallocain on Facebook.
