Here’s an excellent single from the Oakland band Catholic Radio. They fool us a bit with the band name, since the music has very little to do with religion. Recently they released the single “Rain Is Done”, which is taken from the album “The Last Summer, Vol. 2”, launched earlier this year. They start out with a laidback, dreamy indie rock which lands in a “Dark Side of the Moon”-sounding chorus and then opens up in an atmospheric soundscape with shimmering layers of guitars. Beautiful, different and with a quite pleasant sound full of retro vibes. If you like dreamy, melodic indie rock with progressive tendencies I recommend you to check out both of their “The Last Summer”-albums they released this year.
The trio Rooni, with the songwriter Gustav Nilsson at the front, have just released their new EP “YODO”. The title is an acronym for “You Only Die Once”, paraphrasing the popular expression YOLO. Gustav writes that he became a first time father a year ago, an experience that made him start thinking about his own mortality, which is now reflected in these songs. It is hardly a gloomy collection of songs, though, rather the opposite. It feels life-affirming and the EP is full of uplifting, playful indiepop. The songs have a straight-on approach with simple, catchy choruses, stirring bass melodies and a nice unpolished sound which makes it feel like they’ve just been pulled out, smoking hot, from the power pop oven. Listen to a couple of tracks from the EP:
Filip Lundgren is preparing for his upcoming album release with this new single, “Allting är historia”. The song feels like an obvious sing-along favourite on his future gigs and reminds me quite a bit of Broder Daniel in the chorus. With the song he wants to remind us to really se what’s happening around us, here and now, and urges us to act now to prevent history from repeating itself with racism and fascism holding us in its cold grip.
The debut album “Där Inget Annat Finns” will be launched on the 16th of October.
YAST have just released their new album “My Dreams Did Finally Come True”. Bigger, better, and sweeter than ever before. Here’s a taste in the shape of the single “Together Forever”:
Navelin has released the EP “Side One” in September. It’s the first part of two, which later on will form a full length album. The earlier single “Shake It Off” comes here in the company of four new songs with dreamy, soaring pop. Here are two tracks to taste:
