Violet Days – “O.D On You”

Violet Days

Lina Hansson and her Violet Days are back with the new single “O.D On You”. Like before she shows her ability to write catchy pop tracks dressed in a sweet and balanced combo of electronic and organic sounds. This song is a bit more restrained than earlier singles, but compensates with a fast-paced beat creating a great drive in the track. A perfect Friday song if you’re in the mood for whipping up some energy for the night. The best track so far from Violet Days.

Avante Black – “Drug Money”

Avante Black

It’s not too often you hear sirens fit in so sweetly in a pop track like in Avante Black’s new song “Drug Money”. The London-based band, with Swedish singer Ottilia Zimmerman Kjulsten at the front, makes pop with a shoegaze touch. Here on their second single they have created a dense, spacious pop sound where Ottilia, cool and innocent, smoothly glides through the track,  right in the middle of all the the alarming sounds around her.

Magnus Bergman – “JR & Sue Ellen”

Magnus Bergman

There’s plenty of country vibes in Magnus Bergman’s latest song creation “JR & Sue Ellen”. And I guess it’s an obligation if you’re singing about the Dallas couple, in whose fate Magnus obviously finds some wisdom of life. This is the song you should listen to when life doesn’t exactly runs like a clockwork and the best thing you can do is to lean back and laugh at the misfortunes.

Wild Fauna – “Crooked Smile”

Wild Fauna

The Norwegian band Wild Fauna has created a sweet, messy sound on their debut single “Crooked Smile”. It’s raw, full of crunchy garage guitars and feels liberatingly simple and energic in the powerpop-vibing chorus. The 90’s seem close when I’m thinking about refererences and I’m not surprised when I see that they mention Dinosaur Jr. and The Posies among the influences. The song is the first taste of their debut album, which is due for release soon.

Biskuwi – “Ardent”

Biskuwi

It’s not too often I write about techno but here’s a track from Biskuwi, a producer hailing from Uppsala. The song is called “Ardent”, a track where he efficiently builds up a dark urban atmosphere. It’s a straight track revolving around the relentless kick beat and a creaky synth which supplies the harmonies. He adds beats, ominous melodies, effects and also breating spaces which all emphasize the ambience in a smooth and varied way.
