dePhaser, hailing from Malmö, which we wrote about a while ago, is back with some great tracks. Basically they follow the same route as they did before, but maybe it’s more obvious where they’re heading? American postgrunge-rock vibes in the bottom with pop-sensitive choruses. Nope…we’re not in the biblical stories…and not in heaven…but close…
Cause the song “Come on” from Ctrl the Mob makes me fly like a bird in the sky. And lately their songs have started flying up the charts on various radio stations around the world.
They call themselves “a father & son project”, this trio which consists of John Jerico, Michael Jerico och T.C.
– I’m the creative engine, writing all the lyrics and music, John tells me over the phone from Hälsingland, while Michael delivers, refines and communicates the ideas through his guitar. T.C. is the producer, engineer and sounding board.
Both Delsbostintan and the punk rock band Totalitär have relations to the band, as Delsbostintan is a distant relative to John och Michael, and John was one of the original members in Totalitär. The goal is to make a tour in 2015 where they follow Delsbostintan’s tracks, a tour she made in the US more than hundred years ago.
Last year the band was successful on the music site Snowfish in the contest Next Big Thing and ended up in third place, making it to the finals.
– The biggest win with participating in NBT was on a personal level, meeting all these wonderful people, John continues. It widened our network and has created side projects, collaborations on various levels.

Empire Express slowly build their instrumental songs around a simple theme, to finally land in grandiose sound walls or to explode in sparkling rock crescendos like in “Valleyland – part 2” here below.
“Valleyland” is also the name of the debut album which was released in January, an album they’ve been working on for two years. You can listen to the album on Spotify or on Soundcloud. You can also visit their site.
“Between Two States” is what Kallocain, hailing from Norrköping, has called their debut album. I get a feeling that this could have been one of Radiohead’s side projects that never was released, in the end of the nineties. At the same time I get vibes from the seventies, americana and singer/songwriter. It all blends into a mix where I’m thrown between softer tracks with beautiful acoustic guitars and tracks with dirty indie guitars, all in a common mellow atmosphere.
It’s an even and interesting album, where each song deserves attention, which made it hard to choose two songs you can listen to. The first track “Firecracker” below, is the track that differs most from the other songs on the album, with more pop vibes and synth sounds.

“Soundgarden goes psychedelic folk-prog” somebody said about Kokong‘s album “Science Loves Pudding”. The band describe the music as a mix of sex and sudoku and that they had the ambition to create music without any fixed boundaries. The band, or the duo, consists of Niclas Peterson and Tom Lindström.
I think that the quote above is a good reference point from where it all starts, somewhere in the nineties’ grunge-post-grunge, but then it takes of in various directions and I get all sorts of associations in the songs. Like for example in “Knife Attack” below, where it almost seems like Tom Waits was around when they recorded the song.
