Polar City is a rock trio from Malmö. Originally the band name comes from a party photo from a club, and the band members thought the name sounded cool. The meaning of the name has evolved afterwards, as is often the case, and Polar City today stands for Malmö and the members’ upbringing there.

The latest single contains a couple of hard driving post grunge songs with metal vibes, and if you go back to their debut EP you can find a wider range of influences, here below represented by the song “Killing It Like a Comedian Should”.

Killing It Like a Comedian Should

The band name Aerials was invented when Christoffer Franzén was considering different words that described the music that was inside his head: Airy, space, cinematic, melodic. The word Aerials popped up and he felt that it had just the right touch for what he wanted to express.

The music he then produced does feel a lot like he described it to himself. There’s an airy sound with post rock vibes often running for grand crescendos. He alternates between instrumental songs, that certainly could fit well in movies, and songs with vocals. He tells that sometimes a melody comes to him and sometimes not, and when it does he sees himself as an involuntary singer.

Dream Away

Now we in Bus Stop Dreams have released our third single, “Come Together” (and no, it’s not a Beatles cover). There are two songs, written by Lasse Thomasson and Pär Enqvist respectively, treating the same subject but from two different perspectives. “A dystopian group cuddle” we call it.

The singer on the title track is Andreas Lundgren and on the second song “Let Us Light a Fire” Ulla Wrethagen is singing. To the department of remarkable band names we can add the trio Sterile Hermaphrodite, hailing from Uddevalla. And the music is also remarkable, which you can hear on their latest EP, “Big Fat Pussy Club”, where they serve their own, nice version of stoner rock mixed with punk vibes and streaks of metal.

Tangaboy

I’m going to finish this week with some punk, or at least in that direction. It’s Sharon, hailing from Stockholm, that has presented som great intense and raw rock on a three-track EP recently, represented below by the slowest of the three songs, “Graverobbers Blues”.

The band started out about a year ago and was initially named Skulls, a name the members weren’t entirely satisfied with. One of the song, “Sharon”, is about Sharon Tate and during a dinner it was suggested that it should be the band’s name as well, and it was settled.
