Here’s an album that was released in February, but which I didn’t have time to write about then. But you can’t miss this, because this is one of the best rock album I’ve heard so far this year, namely Grande Roses’ second album “Built On Schemes”.
Again they show us a dark, dense postpunk based rock, and even if they have polished off some of the post punk in the sound and the most heated anger from the debut album “Disease“, the sharpness and the furious energy is still there. The songs feel overall stronger and with a larger variation, and finally I can replace “Radio Heartbreak”, which has been spinning in my head since the last album, with the new “Ambulance”. Culkin have released a taste of their upcoming album. It’s the song “Hernandez II” with cool grunge-tinged underground rock, and which is available on the label Kollektivet Record’s first mixtape. Listen here:
Before a series of gigs in England, starting today, The Virtues has released the single “City Wellbeing”. The song was recorded already in 2006, but was put aside until it appeared on the collection “The Southside Cavern Volume One” at the beginning of this year. I think that this is The Virtues at their best: power pop-influenced rock with a wonderful rough sound and skillfully crafted songs.
“The Haze” is a song taken from Dolores Haze’ upcoming EP “Accidental”, which will be released on Wednesday next week. It’s a fiercely cool garage punk track, delivered without hesitation with attitude ande energy. I have also added the single “I Got My Gun”, which was released earlier this year.
The band Långfinger, hailing from Göteborg, are releasing their single “Mangas Coloradas” today, an energetic, great rock track that breathes hard rock from the seventies á la Nazareth, Mountain and similar bands. They describe the ambience best themselves:
