I haven’t really figured out yet what’s behind Anyone For Tennis‘ interesting band name. If they are referring to the classic phrase in some way or to the old Cream song with the same name, or to something else. (sorry, forgot to ask :-)) But there’s no question what their music is about: great pop/rock with a lot of energy.

Maybe I could describe it as one part of Foo Fighters and one part of brit-pop. Well produced, but not overpolished, creating a nice balance between the pop and the rock energy in the music.

The band is just about to release a new five-track EP, and you can get a taste of it here, “In Her Honor”. I also added a track from their debut EP, “Radio”.

Last summer Christian wrote about Pär Enqvist and his album “Här och nu” (“Here and Now”), an album that summarized some of his music as a solo artist up until the formation of Pär Enqvist Band a couple of years ago. The members of the band today are Pär Enqvist, vocals and guitars, Söhren Dahlgren, guitars, Patrik Johnsson, guitars, Hans Müller, bass and Rickard Ahl, drums. It was decided that the band’s debut EP was to be released on the net, for free downloading, and also that it would be done here at Meadowmusic, which, of course, I am more than pleased with.

Take a moment to enjoy the band’s rock and country rock-steaming music. I have seen the band live a couple of times and I can assure you that this really is a live band, with all that comes with it, so it’s no coincidence that the recordings was done in a way to emphasize the live feeling of the music, which led to a sound that reminds me of Neil Young’s Zuma recordings.

When I saw Sugarcoin live this autumn I got really surprised. The thing is that my already high expectations was surpassed. Simply put it was fantastic. I had listened to a lot of songs from him before, and I had liked them all. But live it was even better!

The main character behind these beautiful compositions is Andreas Nerström. I think that his own description of his sound is rather spot-on:

“The music is written primarily on the guitar. Often it builds upon a single idea which forms some kind of core in a song, an inner soul. It can be some small detail or a strand. Sometimes no more than a rhythm or a string of tones. In extreme cases nothing more than the grating of a dirty steel string. My motivation is to conserve and package that small idea, that original feeling of simplicity and clarity, wherever it comes from. Like if it, in spite of it’s banality, carries the answer to some  big mystery”

To me, Sugarcoin delivers a really beautiful and fragile music loaded with emotions. And with the voice of Andreas on top of this…well, can it be any better? Right now, the second album is out, “A Great Wall of Antagonism”. I don’t know what to say. I have bought about 20 CD:s in my entire life (and it’s not because of downloading or copying of my friends’ records), and Sugarcoin’s second album is one of these. And doesn’t that say it all?

Fortunately you can download here a few of the pearls from the second album, for free. And I’m very happy about that. Because this music should be spread to a lot of people, everywhere! Hammarström & Mark is a new constellation and they have just released their first track, which they share with us here. The band consists of Mark Österdahl and the brothers Joacim and Niclas Hammarström, and someone may remember Mark as the former singer in the rock band Mindhit.

Partly this feels like post-grunge in the style of Takida and other similar bands, and partly it feels a little like rock from the early nineties, like for example Gun. And that I mention Gun is also because that Mark’s cool rock voice reminds me of Mark Rankin in Gun.

In any case, it’s a great debut, and I hope it will be followed soon by more tracks. You’ll find Hammarström & Mark on Myspace.

Redlight Attraction startad as late as August last year with the singer Terry Blade as the front figure. One can guess that this is about glam rock, by looking at the band picture. And glam rock it is, melodic glam rock, with heavy, driving metal drums and a load of rock energy. Listen for yourself here below.

The songs you can listen to was recorded in Martin Sweet’s studio (guitarist in Crashdïet) in the end of last year. The band is now again in the studio, as the the plan is to release a debut EP further on. If you want to see them live, they will do a couple of gigs in Sundsvall in the beginning of March, fronting Wolf.
