Honeymilk – “Psychrocker” (feat De Montevert)

October 20, 2015 at 2:33 pm

Honeymilk

Honeymilk released this pearl of a song in the beginning of this month, “Psychrocker”, a duet with De Montevert. That they can make shaky, squeaking guitars sound this beautiful is an accomplishment in itself. It’s liberating with a band who doesn’t polish their sound as the audience and the ambitions grow. Honeymilk is in fact doing the opposite and doesn’t hesitate to push the boundaries further. Still, they are catchier than ever. With the song they also show that they have sense of humour and self irony:

Honeymilk wanted to write a song about “people with more arrogance than they merit. People with a bigger idea of themselves, than their talent can live up to,” the band says. When they had finished writing the song, they came to the conclusion – to their greatest disappointment – that they actually wrote it about no other than themselves. “Psychrocker is simply a tribute to Honeymilk.”

This Is Head – “Timmerdalen”

This Is Head

This Is Head moved into a cabin on the island Mjörn on the Swedish west coast last year, and wrote and recorded the tracks that will be included on their third album in the Autumn. Last month the first single “People” was released and a week ago “Timmerdalen” was presented together with a video. Up until the album launch they will release another single and three more videos. Here are the first tastes from the record.

Trail of Feathers – “Love and Theft” – video premiere

March 3, 2015 at 1:11 pm

Trail of Feathers

Here’s a video premiere from the band Trail of Feathers and their song “Love and Theft”. The band has recently released the eponymous debut EP, an EP that impresses me. They write themselves about their various sources of inspiration and mention drummers John Bonham and Elvin Jones and artists like Portishead, Feist, Albert King and Shuggie Otis, which can be sensed here and there in the songs. To me the music seems to come right out from the British late sixties, the melting pot of rock, blues, psykadelia, pop and soul that gave birth to a number of genres and saw artists like The Yardbirds, Blind Faith, Cream, Traffic, Ten Years After to mention a few I’m reminded of here. It feels like the band have dived right into this bluesbased classic soil and picked out their own goodies, which they have developed in an exquisite way with a wonderful guitarsound and soul tinged vocals, topped with a delicious sense of melody.
Here’s the premiere video and below also three of the tracks from the EP.
