Here’s a new video from Alice Boman and her song “Burns”, created by film maker Christoffer Castor. He found a collection of 8mm film rolls in an abandoned cottage somewhere in the south of Sweden, filmed by some unknown person maybe 30 years ago. Some of the films were labeled “U.S.A”, which he recorded and used for this video.

Today Marigold are releasing the single “Can’t Touch Me”, a catchy synthpop-tinged song which makes me think of ELO from the end of the seventies/at the start of the eighties. And if I would summarize Marigold’s latest songs I’d say they sound like an indie reincarnation of rock bands from the seventies that were influnced by disco and synth pop, becoming more dance friendly and stepping into the catchy pop room instead. This is just as obvious on the Marigold’s single from November, the excellent “Allt kommer bli bra”, where Fleetwood Mac comes to mind.

Johan Agebjörn, hailing from Lund, is best known for his collaboration with Sally Shapiro, as a songwriter and a producer. He has also released music under his own name, often focused on either nu-disco or ambient music. On the upcoming album “Notes” he’s exploring some new routes, though. The starting point for each song has been the electric piano sound from a Casio MT52 keyboard, a simpler keyboard which was manufactured in the early eighties.

A week ago he released the single “The Boy Who Thought It Was a Good Idea to Cry”, which is taken from the album. It’s a beautifully melancholic song which makes me think of old TV series from the seventies or the eighties, like a theme to some thriller series or some detective story. There are also a couple of other sample songs from the record, released in the Autumn, “The Right to Play” and “The Leftovers”, where the last song includes vocals from Loney Dear. On “Notes”, scheduled for release on the 10th of February, you’ll also hear collaborations with Sally Shapiro, Young Galaxy and Brain Machine.

The trio Sentimental Pet have released their third single, “Killing Time”. It’s quite different from the last single “Evil Mind” from last Spring; we’re faced here with a darker ambience and a tough, grinding, hypnotic rock with reverb drenched guitars and distant voices. Rough guitars threaten to throw us into chaos along the way but never do it, but take command again and continue down the designated route. Interestingly there’s also also a story that comes with the song, a story which places the band in Nicaragua under some mysterious circumstances. During 2015 The Plastic Pals celebrate 10 years as a band. Today they release the single “Riding With Elvis” which makes it a perfect way to start this music year, I think. It’s been 80 years since Elvis was born today, and the band honour him with a sparkling tribute to rock’n’roll. In their own way, with a rough, tight groove, inspired by Motown, and razorsharp guitar riffs. Another band attribute, the melodic, catchy chorus, is also there, and the question is if the band have ever sounded this good.
