After trying to study in Berlin for half a year Tim Pirfält returned to his hometown Jönköping. As his bands Tifuos and Holden C was put on hold, he picked up the music production again on his own, in his living room. The result so far is the EP “Världens största rock and rollkliché” (“The biggest rock and roll cliché on the world”), a pop album that breathes of Kent, but also other’s he mention as influences like Håkan Hellström, Jens Lekman, Kurt Vile, MacDemarco and Azure Blue. Songwise I think this is among the best he has made so far, especially when it comes to the lyrics, with lines that goes straight in, painting a young generation’s fumbling for meaning.
In 2011 Alex Saidac released a successful debut single, and was later on her way with her debut album, backed by Island Records. She felt uncomfortable with the project, though, as she didn’t recognise herself in the music, so she put a stop to it and turned back to think about what music she really wanted to do. As a first result of the new ideas, she released the single “Number Painting” in Summer, a song about being who you are, and not letting others define it for you. The song and the strong, powerful chorus becomes an exclamation mark for all this. Listen for yourself here below.
The metal band Bloodlit, hailing from Borås, was formed in 2009. A couple of years later they released the EP “Take What’s Mine” and earlier this year the full length album “Dead On”. Well, I should I also mention that I got a press release today announcing that the band has made the official song for their hometown’s hockey team Borås Hockey: “Lions (Fight Under Pressure)“. Think about that, to see the home audience headbanging to heavy metal just have to give some extra fuel to the team.
“Dead On” is a great metal album, full of heavy, raw metal, in which they blend smooth melodies and some influences from classic hard rock from the seventies and the eighties, but without compromising with the weight and the roughness in their rock sound. Add to that a good singer in Mladen Milojkovic and a great drive in the music and you get a band on their way of carving out their own sound in the metalrock stream. Here are two songs, where “God of Clay” may be my favourite from the album.
The rock band Killerball had a somewhat intense festival Summer where they performed at both the new Bråvallafestivalen as well as at Hultsfredsfestivalen among others, but now they seem to be busy in the songwriting chamber for the rest of the year. Meanwhile we can enjoy their latest single “Hype”, with the music video they released some months ago.
We’ve met Alexander Eldefors here before in the psychadelia-sounding The Seed Coat. Yellus is another project of his and moves in the land of electronica mainly, either through the pleasant, instrumental “A Place On The Other Side Of The Mountains” here below or the electro pop track “Move with You” which I’ve also added.
