There was obviously some problem with the track “Obedient Minds” with Dubious Quip as published two days ago, some people have reported. Therefore we have converted the track into a more common format which you can download in this post:

Maybe you have seen the movie Black snake moan and remember the scene where Samuel L. Jackson’s character plays the song Stack-O-Lee Lee in a smoky, sweaty and dirty Mississippi bar and remember the feeling. With the song “Obedient Minds” Dubious Quip have managed to create the feeling from the after-party.

From what I know, Dubious Quip comes in several variations; a smoky, sweaty and dirty kind of modern blues, an acoustic version and also as hip hop. It’s hard to put a label on Dubious Quip; and sometimes I also find reggae influences.
I like the first variation best, since I have a preference for songs where I can create my own music video in my head. Moby is a good example of this, and even if Dubious Quip and Moby are far away from each other musically, Dubious Quip also manages to create images within me. Dubious Quip is something for you who like to sit in a smoky room with a smoky whisky and feel good!

It fits perfectly well to start a Sunday in October to listen to some feelgood music. Because that’s exactly what the duo Welkin & the Jangler offers. Nice laidback songs, where my thoughts sometimes wanders away to warm summer nights, relaxation and blue oceans. Two voices, one darker and one brighter, which both have nice tones, and first of all complement eachother perfectly.

The beautiful harmonies and the rhythmic catchy choruses makes me sometimes think of Simon & Garfunkel. But in general they move more to the soul areas of pop music. It’s acoustic with great guitar play, and they surprise sometimes by adding strings and brass.

According to Wikipedia Pachanga is a cuban dance, nowadays only popular in Cali, Colombia. It’s also the name of a character in the movie “Carlito’s Way”. But there is also a third explanation for the term: a spanish word for party.

And when you listen to Pachanga, there can be no doubt what their name means. Because party it is. I can imagine a spontaneous street party, maybe on Möllevången in Malmö, where Pachanga spread their joy to wild dancing in the streets to their wonderful mixture of rock, pop and soul. And yes, it’s still party when Niklas Svensson shouts “I’m an idiot” in “Buffalo Bill”.

There is a nice mess as the 9 men and women in Pachanga starts playing. Of course there are guitars, drums and bass, but also Rhodes, melodica, percussion, trombone and saxophones.

“Bad Sneakers” is a song from the classic album “Katy Lied” by Steely Dan. And it’s also in these music regions we find the band Bad Sneakers from Lund. A classical 70s light-soul-funk is mixed with a nice and clean Steve Winwood soul from the 80s, on ther first EP.

There are nog big surprises here, and it’s probably not the intention either. Instead they deliver a nice and easy feeling, that makes the atmosphere in the room seem a little lighter, as I’m sitting here watching the autumn rain sweeping in over the landscape outside.

I get impressed as I read that the four band members started the band as late as November 2007 and that they are between 19 and 21 years old. Since the start they have landed quite a few gigs and lately they have played at the Malmö festival and Kulturnatten in Lund.
