Anti Pony – “Pale Blue Hours”

January 17, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Anti Pony

It’s time to pick up the pen again and I do that in the company of the duo Anti Pony, Sanna Colling och Alexander Pierre, who have spent the Winter in the studio together with the producer Max-Måns Wikman (Dolores Haze, Those Dancing Days, Side Effects). On Thursday we get to hear the result, packaged as their first EP, “Alexander”. Here’s a taste from the album in the shape of the sweet, psychadelic and suggestive song “Pale Blue Hours”. They have refined their sound and radiate, if possible, even more vibes of the late 60’s, and a more prominent Hammond organ, than on the earlier singles, adds the finishing touch. Best so far from the duo, on all levels.

Lava Bangs – “Ouch”

The trio Lava Bangs called themselves The Volcano when they visited the blog a few years ago. Now they’ve released the debut single “Ouch” under the new name, a single with a punkish, riot grrl-vibing garage rock and a great, raw sound.

Caviare Days – “More Than One”

Caviare Days serve us this song pearl on the their new single, “More Than One”. The psychadelic influences are still strong in their sound, well even stronger now in a vibe that feels more live and authentic than before.

Giungla – “Cold”

The Italian artist Emanuela Drei calls herself Giungla when she’s performing solo. The other day she released her debut single, “Cold”, a cool song based on her vocals, a raw processed guitar and a drum machine.

Jon Magnusson – “Dina drömmar”

Jon Magnusson has released the EP “Dina drömmar”, where the title track stuck in my head. It’s a charming song which reminds me a bit of Kjell Höglund.

Astro Tan – “Whiskey + Water”

Astro Tan

Astro Tan, a trio hailing from Portland, Oregon, recently released this fascinating single, “Whiskey + Water”. They write that they have experimented with the recordings in various ways to achieve the right blend of darkness and exotica. They have for example recorded themselves in large, cavernous spaces and mixed this with isolated instrument tracks. They have in any case produced a special atmosphere; dark without being intimidating, mysterious but still with a laidback warmth in the bottom. It’s psychadelia with a relaxed, exotic vibe that makes me think of David Sylvain and his Japan. If you’d like to listen to more from the band I can recommend their album “Soma” they released last year.

Natten – “Vuela Vuela”

November 9, 2015 at 6:21 pm

Natten are on their way with a new album called ”Dolce Vita”. As a first taste of the album they have released the single “Vuela Vuela”, along with a music video. If you’ve heard Natten before, you will recognize the special atmosphere in their music as they take us along on late night escapades moving between reality and surrealism, between well-known lands and exotic places and between the visible and the unseen, into the soundscape of Natten.

Sudakistan – “Concrete Jungle”

November 5, 2015 at 2:53 pm

I’m staying a little bit longer in the garage today, now in the company of Sudakistan, latino rhythms and psychadelia. Their awaited album “Caballo Negro”, produced by Joakim Åhlund and Luke Reilly, will be released on the 20th of November, and during the Autumn they have served us a couple of tracks to taste from the record:
