We’ve heard Sandra Vilppala before standing in the front of the band Fröken Underbar. Now she’s heading for a solo adventure on an upcoming album she describes as uncensored. She writes: “The album I’ve recorded is telling about my lesbian awakening but is also involving my upbringing in Köping, the journey from inferiority complexes to anti-jante. It’s about banging your head in every wall but refusing to give up. It’s a battle album.” (transl. from Swedish)

To judge from the first two singles, taken from the album, she’s fighting the battle with love and positive energy. We meet a stirring, uplifting and catchy pop in a sound that gives me a sense of a large indoor concert arena, which makes the music feel even more alive and for real. The songs have been produced by Sandra and Christoffer Roth.

Here’s the debut single from the Stockholm duo NORDIK SONAR, Linus Erlandsson and Benjamin Trossö. It’s called “Free From Time” and reminds me of the 80’s synthpop era, where bands like Yazoo and Erasure comes to mind. The song is taken from their debut EP, which will be released later this Autumn.

The duo I Am Karate, who released the fine debut single “Bloom” in Spring, have released a new strong track in the shape of the song “Elevate”. It’s in the same spirit as before with ambient, echoing rooms and a light melancholic atmosphere, but now with a harder beat to it and more energy. A great song with a nice harmonic twist in the chorus which makes it last for many listens.

If the last post was about a song from a film, this one is about a song seeking a film. I does feel filmic in this bittersweet, beautiful and dramatic pop pearl from Rickard och Juvelerna, hailing from Göteborg. The song’s called “Du som aldrig har levat (kan inte bara dö)” and appears like when Göteborg shows us its most beautiful face, lit by sunbeams that have broken through dark, heavy  skies. The song is being released officially on Monday.

Today the acclaimed Swedish movie “My Skinny Sister” has its premiere in the cinemas. At the same time Per Störby Jutbring are releasing the soundtrack to the movie. The single “Tomorrow” is taken from there, a wonderful, ambient pop track and a perfect film song that immediately catches on.
