Novo Amor – “Anchor”

Novo Amor

Novo Amor invites us to this immensely beautiful song, “Anchor”. It certainly surrounds me with warmth in this dark Autumn night, like if there were still some sparks left in the last camp fire of the summer. Behind the artist name Novo Amor and the soft falsetto voice you’ll find the British artist Ali Lacey, who last year released his debut EP “Woodgate NY”, a highly recommended album.

Roth – “We Are”

Roth

The duo Roth, which consists of the two siblings Julia and Gustav Roth, released the single “We Are” last week. It’s a piece of dreamy, uplifting and catchy pop with a rather minimalistic arrangement but still grand-sounding, a sound they were inspired to in a recent visit to Japan. The song is a love tribute to the equality of all the people in the world, they write.

MANKKU [mancko] – “Stick & Brinn”

MANKKU [mancko]

MANKKU surprises us on his latest single “Stick & Brinn” by throwing out his guitars and get out into the electronic soundscapes. And it’s a move that works amazingly well as he finds various ways to enhance the drama in the song. Here’s a number of ideas, like if he put his hand in an electronic goodie bag and decorated with effects, rhythms and pads, still in a way that feels tasteful and a bit minimalistic. Like if he’s done it all the time. Certainly among the best I’ve heard from him.

Missa – “Genesis” EP

Missa

Missa is an artist and a producer who released her debut EP “Genesis” a little more than a week ago. It consists of four pop tracks which give me quite some vibes from the eigthies, where she with meandering melodies dives into grand, dreamy choruses wrapped in shimmering synth pads. Listen to two of the songs here below.

KALK – “Hold Tight” premiere

October 15, 2015 at 2:44 pm

KALK

Today I have the honour to host the premiere of a new song. It’s the duo KALK who are releasing their debut single “Hold Tight” today. The duo consists of Julia Simonson and Freja Drakenberg, who in November subsequently will release their debut EP.

I immediately fell for this song. On the surface it’s a catchy pop track with an interesting and a bit different chorus. But there are more elements in the song that caught me: the sweeping synth pads that drift back and forth like a warm breeze in the song, and the lightness in a rather percussion-heavy track, but which still feels effortless. They write about the meaning of the song:

“Hold Tight deals with the dilemma of making a choice with either your heart or your brain, and how that dilemma can drive you crazy. Hold Tight is about making the easy choice before the right choice, ignoring about what’s really the best for you.”
