I got a tip the other day about Jonas Tunander. Earlier this year he released the EP “You Took a Piece of My Heart”, which is available on på sin hemsida free for download.

He serves a pop/rock-mix where other influences can be sensed in the verses which erupts in nice catchy choruses. What catches me most in the end is Jonas’ vocals; he sings in a straightforward and open way that feels quite different.
I did recognise the way of singing somehow, but it wasn’t until I heard an electronica remix by Mars TV of the song “Get Your Feet Back On the Ground”, that I finally landed in the synth pop from the eighties and the vocals heard there.

Piano based pop with jazz influences they call their music, Silverpennies. A very good description, I think. If I place them on my music map they come somewhere close to Toto’s regions, although more towards pop.

In August this fall they released a six track EP “Andromeda”. And I’m having a really good time listening through the album. A nice sound, a lot of variation and imaginative songwriting. Straight pop melodies are interwoven with jazzy parts. I also sense four skilled musicians collaborating here, with great vocals from Adam Jonsson.

You can listen to and download “Andromeda” on their site, all for free. On their site they also blog more or less frequently, with a video blog now and then, so if want to know more about the band, I suggest you start there.

Here’s some music that hopefully puts you in a good mood. Don’t get fool by the name Heart-Sick Groans, because the ambience is just opposite of what could be expected. Fun.

This is happy indie pop with folk influences. Imaginative, playful and mostly acoustic arrangements, with a violin, with tasteful effects and nice harmonies that are laid out in the best Beautiful South manner.

Earlier this year they released the EP “Oh, I Can Do a Number of Things”, and you can listen to a song from the EP below, “The Season For Us”. Now they are recording some new material, from which you can listen to “Suddenly Molly” here.

“I Will Do It” (Footprint Records) is the name of Patrick Rydman’s debut album. It’s an album with variation with ingredients from different styles, but the base is a jazz-pop, where we we find stars from before like Tony Bennett and younger ones like Harry Connick jr, Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall. What Patrick presents is soft with a tender melancholy and I find him in the smoky jazz club rather than the big arena.

With the jazz hat on, the album shows a nice blend of styles; from blues, pop, jazz to soul. Melodies faithful to the genres and also more experimental ones. I suggest that you listen to more songs from “I Will Do It” on Patrick Rydman’s Myspace page. If you want to buy the CD, it’s available at Footprint Records.

It fits perfectly well to start a Sunday in October to listen to some feelgood music. Because that’s exactly what the duo Welkin & the Jangler offers. Nice laidback songs, where my thoughts sometimes wanders away to warm summer nights, relaxation and blue oceans. Two voices, one darker and one brighter, which both have nice tones, and first of all complement eachother perfectly.

The beautiful harmonies and the rhythmic catchy choruses makes me sometimes think of Simon & Garfunkel. But in general they move more to the soul areas of pop music. It’s acoustic with great guitar play, and they surprise sometimes by adding strings and brass.
