“Between Two States” is what Kallocain, hailing from Norrköping, has called their debut album. I get a feeling that this could have been one of Radiohead’s side projects that never was released, in the end of the nineties. At the same time I get vibes from the seventies, americana and singer/songwriter. It all blends into a mix where I’m thrown between softer tracks with beautiful acoustic guitars and tracks with dirty indie guitars, all in a common mellow atmosphere.

It’s an even and interesting album, where each song deserves attention, which made it hard to choose two songs you can listen to. The first track “Firecracker” below, is the track that differs most from the other songs on the album, with more pop vibes and synth sounds.

If you liked Let’s Say We Did we wrote about last year, you will probably be interested to know that they have released the new single “Let the Sky Come Down” today. The song is a first taste of the upcoming “Lost & Found EP”, which will be released in the end of March.

Mårten Lärka is back with a new release, the three-track EP “Trubadelica”. This time he’s joined forces with Josef Zackrisson and together with Petter Parlour they’ve created a production I really like. It’s minimalistic, the songs are  clearly defined and the drums are in a way the leading instrument. Or you can describe it like Mårten does: “Three songs told by a troubadour with band”.

Two young men, a piano, an acoustic guitar and all in one take could be a summary of the duo Profetian (“The Prophecy”). The sing in both English and Swedish, but I like the productions in English best, which have a nice presence and live feeling.

The Loneliest Man On Earth

To make an even and great pop album is not easy at all, and after hearing The Genuine Fakes‘ new album it feels like they’ve succeeded in this. It also feels this album could’ve been from the 90’s, which isn’t bad at all. The melodies stick like glue and the singer has a nice tone, and gets a solid backup from a very skilled band with great backup-vocals.

The only negative thing about this record lies in a cover, Beyonce Knowles’ “Irreplaceable”, now revamped. Did the record company force the band to do a cover? The song feels kinda odd and misplaced, which is a shame as the other tracks really stand out.

The artwork for the album is just outstanding if you ask me, and I really like the pictures of the band members. The band has made 2 videos, and you should check out the video for “When Reality Hits You”, the best track on the album!
