PAL have released their new album “Since” now in March, just like they promised when the single “Alone” was released in February. I really like this album, especially the ambience they create in the songs, an ambience that feels laidback and a bit dreamy with a hint of melancholy. That runs through all the songs regardless of tempo, but feels the strongest when the theremin-sounding synths come in and add a nostalgic vibe to the mix. A worthy follow-up to the debut album “Weeks” from 2011. Here are two songs:

Albin Johansson’s and his PAL are back with a new single, “Alone”. Furthermore, they are announcing the new album “Since”, to be released in March. And I certainly recognize PAL’s beautiful, humble and melancholic ambience, even though the sound has been upgraded since the last album in 2011. A most welcome return.

Albin Johansson’s project Pal, which I wrote about a year ago, has developed more into a band than a solo project. To show us how they sound now they recorded a couple of songs at Studio Möllan in Malmö during the Autumn, and filmed the session. You can watch the result here below in two beautiful videos.

Pal is Albin Johansson hailing from Malmö. In December he launched the 7-track debut album “Weeks”. It’s about a rather soft, dreamy pop, a bit minimalistic. The mix of analogue synths, guitars, old drum machines and often a nice rolling bass give a special feeling to the sound. It feels a little retro and I can’t help thinking of Air when I listen to the harmonies and the bass figures. A very nice new acquaintance and you can listen to the entire album on Pal’s Bandcamp page.
The name Pal, Albin invented in 2007 when he uploaded his first home recordings to Myspace. He wanted to be anonymous and he liked the combination with the hint to his first name and the meaning of the word.
You can also find Pal on Tumblr, Facebook and on Spotify.
