Joachim Dahlbergs Vindkraft

In the Autumn Joachim Dahlberg let us taste his record “Med blod som bläck” in advance on several occasions. The album was later released in the beginning of this year, and it’s an album that definitely deserves more attention. The theme of the album is a story about a father and his son, where each song represent an episode from their relation. It becomes a shifting and winding emotional journey which the band narrates with rock and sweet pop melodies in a beautiful production. There is a power and an intensity which grabs hold of you right from the start, in dynamic songs that can change fast between soft, intimate moments and grand-sounding, dramatic heights. Here are some songs from the album.

Today Joachim Dahlbergs Vindkraft is releasing the second single from the upcoming album “Med blod som bläck”. It’s the song “Tankekraft”, which is also the song that made me stop and react to the power of Joachim’s music. Here is his story about the song:

– I wrote Tankekraft about five years ago in a small flat in Hägersten I rented from Syster Sol. It was right in the beginning of maybe the most difficult period of my life, and I’ve probably never felt so bad as I did then. The reason for that is what the upcoming album, which I have named “Med blod som bläck”, is all about. 10 songs, and each one of them is about the same thing, in kind of a chronologically told story drawn from my own experiences. Tankekraft, which is part four of the story, was the first song I wrote for the project, and it’s one of the first songs I ever wrote in Swedish. It may also be the most angry song I have.

Joachim Dalbergs Vindkraft

It’s been a couple of years since I wrote about Joachim Dahlberg and his Vindkraft, but fortunately his back now with new recordings. His debut album is underway and he recently released the first single, “Återvändsgränd”. I recognize his intensity and his emotional expression from last time, and the song feels like it was part of the soundtrack to a TV drama. And maybe the TV drama is not that far away, as he describes the upcoming album as a concept album where he chronologically tells the story of a father and his son. Here’s “Återvändsgränd”:

Joachim Dahlbergs Vindkraft has grown rapidly from a one man project to a duo to a five-membered band with a traditional setup. They get their influences from Swedish progressive tradition, jazz, rock, folk, which can be heard on this first single, the dramatic, lively, progressive rock-vibing “Tankekraft”.
