Here’s the Danish trio Mont Oliver who released their debut EP “19” about a week ago. They have put together their very own mix of hip hop-beats, trip hop and pop, fronted by Jakob Hammershøj’s smooth soul voice. The biggest exclamation mark is found in the title track “19”, a track that radiates quite a special ambience from the hip hop beat, the pop melody and most of all the the electronic background which kind of looms over it all, foreboding. Here is “19” plus the finishing song “Golden Glow”:
The duo O U F, which should be read Our Underground Firm, last month released their debut track “Crisis (feat Chris Haxa)”, a different hip hop song, dark, a bit industrial, heavy with ominous effects and pitched vocals. O U F consists of the rapper Compulsive and the producer Isolas, who is also producing the electronica duo For BDK.
Rebstar rushes un towards his debut album “Girls Like Nicole” with the new single “Thing About You”. This time it’s more of a pop arrangement with a catchy chorus, but still unmistakably Rebstar’s a bit playful and toungue-in-cheek-rap.
I wanted to make a record that you can listen to in your headphones with your eyes closed, and still see everything I’m saying.
The Malmö rapper Saint has released two more tracks in the Autumn while we’re waiting for his debut album “Asylum”, which is supposed to come out in the end of this year. On the song “For Life” Rebstar, his colleague on the label Today Is Vintage, also contributes.
And now hip hop from the US and Sweden. It’s about the American artist RNA the Messenger who has released the song “Marco Polo” where the Swedish producer Theold has created the beautiful music arrangement. The song is the first taste of the upcoming album “Here Cometh the Dreamer”, to be released in the end of this year or in the beginning of next year.
RNA the Messenger has also another alias, DNAtheG, under which he released the great EP “The Code” last year. Below you’ll find two tracks from the EP as well; , “One Reason” and “Teenager on Drugs”.
